Novell Launches Training Promotion

One-day First Class Training Provides Introduction to Smooth NetWare 4.1 Migration

OREM, UTAH--July 5, 1995--Spurred by customer interest in migrating to its NetWare 4.1 network operating system, Novell is launching First Class, an introductory training promotion that will be held at participating Novell Authorized Education Centers (NAECs) around the world. Network administrators and other networking service providers attending First Class will receive a one-day hands-on introduction to installing, administering, and managing a NetWare 4.1 network. Cost for attending NetWare 4.1: First Class is only US$49. NAECs will kick off First Class training days on September 11, 1995 and may continue to offer the one-day course through October 31, 1995.

First Class launches in conjunction with Novell's NetWare 4.1 upgrade promotion, which provides a 20% discount on upgrades to NetWare 4.1 through October 31, 1995. First Class is designed to encourage upgrades through a high-level understanding of the product. Novell's promotional efforts supporting First Class and the NetWare 4.1 upgrade include a direct mail campaign, internet and print advertising, and information packets sent to users calling in to Novell for more details.

"First Class gives NetWare service providers a unique opportunity to get an effective, hands-on preview of NetWare 4.1 at minimal cost," said Jerry S. Christensen, Director of Business Development at Novell Education. "For NAECs, the cost is also minimal, as Novell assumes the promotional efforts on behalf of our authorized training channel. Everyone wins with First Class--especially the customers."

First Class will be taught in NAECs by Certified Novell Instructors (CNIs), with an emphasis on hands-on learning. First Class will expose network administrators and service providers to the ease of NetWare 4.1 migration, installation, and administration. As a special introductory course, however, First Class will not count toward CNE or Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) certification or curriculum testing. Network administrators and service providers do not have to be certified to attend First Class, but should be experienced with NetWare 3 or NetWare 2. Those interested in attending First Class should call (800) 883-2271 or (612) 831-2429.

Novell Education Perspective

Novell Education's mission is to drive global pervasive computing through quality education programs and products. Since 1987, Novell has pioneered a leveraged model for providing training. Today, Novell training partners around the globe provide instructor-led training and other self-study options to student customers. Novell Authorized Education Centers in North America also offer distance learning via satellite. In 1995, Novell's 1,300 Novell training partners will teach three quarters of a million student customers.

In addition to innovating the leveraged education model, Novell Education has also pioneered certification in the information technology area with its industry-leading programs. CNEs are the global standard for servicing and supporting networking and network applications; CNAs are the global standard for administering networking and network applications; and CNIs are the global standard for teaching networking and network applications. Currently, there are more than 60,000 CNEs, as well as 90,000 CNEs "in progress." There are 4,700-plus Enterprise CNEs (ECNEs), more than 50,000 CNAs and more than 3,000 CNIs. Student customers are already in progress for two new Novell Education certification programs that are scheduled to come on line later this year--the Master CNE (September 30, 1995) and the Novell Productivity Specialist (August 1, 1995).
