PerfectOffice 3.0 Wins First Place In Suite Shootout

PerfectOffice Preferred by 2 out of 3 Users in Five U.S. Cities

OREM, Utah -- July 11, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that PerfectOffice® 3.0, its desktop applications suite, was chosen over Microsoft® Office and Lotus® SmartSuite® by two out of three attendees at a recent Software Suites SuperStars Forum. The Forum was sponsored by ASAP Software Express®, one of the country's largest and fastest-growing resellers of PC software, serving more than 20,000 corporate and government customers nationwide. PerfectOffice was the overwhelming first place winner in each of the forums in five major U.S. cities: Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Stamford and Chicago. Representatives from Novell, Microsoft and Lotus were invited to participate and highlight benefits of their respective suites.

This recent suite shootout is the second round of the SuperStars Forum. Novell's PerfectOffice also won the first round in the fall of 1994 in four major US cities: Phoenix, Raleigh, Cincinnati and Tampa. At that time, PerfectOffice was chosen by 6 out of 10 users in all these cities as the best Windows® suite.

The ASAP SuperStars Forum required both a compulsory and a freestyle section. In the compulsory section, representatives were required to discuss installation and technical support options and to demonstrate suite benefits such as consistency, integration, OLE 2.0 compatibility and automation tools to improve productivity. The freestyle section gave each vendor the opportunity to showcase benefits not available in competing suites. Based on survey results, forum attendees were particularly impressed with the superior automation tools, network integration, OLE support and workgroup capabilities of PerfectOffice.

PerfectOffice began shipping in January 1995 and has quickly outpaced Lotus SmartSuite as the second best-selling suite, according to recent research from Dataquest and PC Data.
