Novell Offers Evaluation Release Of Speedy 32-bit TCP/IP Stack
New Fast, Lean, Reliable TCP/IP Client Ready for Customer Evaluation
What:
Novell, Inc., the market-leading supplier of desktop TCP/IP products, today
has made available the first evaluation release of TCP/IP-32, a fast, lean,
reliable TCP/IP client for users of Novell's LAN WorkPlace® and LAN
WorkGroup® products.
TCP/IP-32 is a key component of Novell's advanced new NetWare® Client
32 architecture which provides high-speed TCP/IP network performance
while dramatically reducing conventional memory usage for desktop PCs.
TCP/IP-32 is being offered in direct response to customer needs and
provides a better way to implement TCP/IP than other technologies
currently available.
The NetWare Client 32 architecture is designed to address today's
diverse computing needs by providing dynamically configurable client
software across multiple desktop platforms. Resulting NetWare Client 32
software will be easy to install, maintain and use, and will provide
high-performance connectivity to advanced NetWare services.
Features:
- Provides a significant increase in performance over existing
approaches such as TSRs (Terminate-and-Stay-Resident) and DLLs
(Dynamic Link Library).
- Dramatically reduces conventional memory consumption in both
Windows and DOS environments.
- Brings stable, robust server technology to the desktop. TCP/IP-32 is
based on Novell's NetWare 32-bit server drivers and benefits from
Novell's 10 years of experience in building NetWare server drivers, and
its five years in building 32-bit NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs).
How:
Users interested in testing and evaluating TCP/IP-32 can access
software via the Novell Home Page on the World Wide Web at:
www.novell.com. They can look under the "What's New" section to
download a version of the technology for evaluation in their own
environment.
When:
TCP/IP-32 is available today for evaluation and test by LAN WorkPlace
users, without charge.
Other:
Novell's newly announced LAN WorkPlace 5 is Novell's premiere desktop
TCP/IP solution, providing networked and remote Windows and DOS
users with concurrent access to Internet, TCP/IP, UNIX® and NetWare
network resources. LAN WorkGroup 4.2 is a server-based application
similar to LAN WorkPlace with the additional features of centralized
installation and workstation configuration. These products and other
information access application products and technologies such as
Internet connectivity, mobile connectivity and the Corsair technology are
developed in Novell's Advanced Access Applications division.
