Novell Releases GroupWise 4.1 For Unix Character Systems
Users of UNIX Text-Based Systems Can Now Take Advantage of Leading Cross-Platform
Electronic Messaging System
OREM, Utah -- July 18, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced
that the GroupWise 4.1 electronic messaging system is now available
for seven different character versions of UNIX. GroupWise is the choice
of many organizations because it supports a broad mix of computers and
operating systems, allowing users to share information regardless of
location or platform.
With a market share that has doubled over the past ten months
and an installed base of more than 3.5 million users, GroupWise remains
the first and only enterprise-wide, cross-platform, electronic messaging
system to integrate e-mail, personal calendaring, group scheduling, voice
mail, faxes, Internet messages, task management and information access
into a single user environment.
"A real benefit to users is that all GroupWise clients--Windows,
DOS, Macintosh and UNIX--are identical in functionality, look and feel,
which reduces training and administration costs," said Steve Adams,
senior director of marketing, Novell GroupWare Division. "GroupWise's
broad cross-platform support provides Novell with a significant
competitive advantage. Only GroupWise provides organizations with a
robust collaborative computing environment on this spectrum of
systems."
"The main deciding factor in our selection of GroupWise as our
hospital's messaging solution was its availability on Windows, as well as
UNIX Motif and character systems," said Dave Schulz, manager,
information systems, St. Louis Children's Hospital, BJC Health Systems.
"It was critical for the hospital to have a messaging system that would
offer complete and identical functionality across our network of PCS,
video display terminals and workstations. With GroupWise, we are not
locked into any platform and we have the freedom to move between
systems without requiring users to relearn the software each time."
Available for seven Motif UNIX systems since August 1994,
GroupWise is the only integrated e-mail, calendaring and scheduling
product available for both UNIX character and graphical systems. The
new UNIX character versions of GroupWise are: System V, Release 4
(SVR4) for Novell's UnixWare and AT&T GIS systems; Sun Microsystems
SunOS 4.1.3 and Solaris; Hewlett-Packard HP-UX; IBM AIX; Data General
DG-UX; and Santa Cruz Operation SCO UNIX.
The suggested retail price of a five-user Client/Administration
package is $695. A special upgrade promotional price, in effect until
October 31, 1995, reduces the suggested retail price of the GroupWise
five-user Client/Administration upgrade package to $195. After October
31, the suggested retail price of the upgrade package will be $245. For
more information, customers may call Novell at 800-861-2507.
GroupWise is a strategic component of Novell's PerfectOffice,
the industry's first network suite. GroupWise complements the
collaboration tools found in PerfectOffice, making it the Perfect Place to
Work and the obvious choice for small or large businesses entering the
era of collaborative computing. GroupWise is also the perfect messaging
partner to Novell's NetWare, the industry's dominant network operating
system. With GroupWise and NetWare, Novell eliminates the need to
separately manage network and messaging systems, making NetWare
the network that is ready for tomorrow, today.
