IDC Report Establishes Novell As World TCP/IP Leader
LAN WorkPlace® and LAN WorkGroup® Maintain Position as
World's Most Popular TCP/IP Solutions
San Jose, CA -- August 15, 1995 -- According to a report
published by International Data Corporation (IDC) (Report #10086), Novell
is the world's leading supplier of solutions based on TCP/IP, the
industry-standard networking technology used in client/server networks
and the Internet. In 1994 Novell shipped 1.3 million copies of its LAN
WorkPlace and LAN WorkGroup TCP/IP solutions for personal computers,
capturing 26.8 percent of the rapidly growing TCP/IP market and retaining
the leadership position it has held since 1991.
According to the report, the TCP/IP market grew 134.3 percent
from 1993 to 1994, underscoring the rising demand for TCP/IP solutions,
especially for PCs. IDC believes that the marketplace will continue to
grow from $439.6 million in sales to $1.7 billion by 1999. Novell, as cited
in the report, led the market in PC TCP/IP shipments as a result of the
company's strong distribution channels and enterprise NetWare#
customers integrating with TCP/IP networks.
LAN WorkPlace 5 is the current release of Novell's popular TCP/IP
connectivity product. It provides Windows and DOS users with access
to information on TCP/IP, NetWare and the Internet. LAN WorkPlace 5
provides a number of new features that make it easier for users to
access information anytime, anyplace, including the Netscape
Navigator# World Wide Web browser and a PC X-Server for desktop
access to graphical X Windows System applications. In addition, Novell
recently introduced TCP/IP-32, a key component of Novell's advanced
new NetWare Client 32 architecture which provides high-speed TCP/IP
network performance while dramatically reducing conventional memory
usage for desktop PCs. Customers can obtain an evaluation copy of
TCP/IP-32 by finding Novell's World Wide Web home page at
http://www.novell.comand going to the "What's New" section. TCP/IP-32
provides a significant increase in performance over existing TCP/IP client
software, and dramatically reduces conventional memory consumption in
the Windows and DOS environments.
"Nearly 3 million customers rely on LAN WorkPlace to access
information from a variety of locations," said Steve Tucker, vice president
and general manager of Novell's Advanced Access Applications
Division. "LAN WorkPlace continues to be an extremely popular solution
for businesses of all sizes because it provides broader, faster, and more
efficient information access than other TCP/IP offerings."
LAN WorkPlace 5 is available immediately through authorized
Novell Channel Partners. Suggested retail pricing is US $399 for a
single-user version; U.S. $1,995 for a 10-user version; and U.S. $12,995
