OREM, Utah -- August 21, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced a free license upgrade to PerfectOffice® for Windows® 95 for customers who purchase PerfectOffice 3.0 for Windows 3.1 on or after August 24, 1995. This offer extends to 30 days after the official ship date of PerfectOffice for Windows 95, scheduled for the end of the year. PerfectOffice for Windows 95, the next release of Novell's desktop applications suite, will exploit the new capabilities of Windows 95 and offer unparalleled network integration. Customers who purchase standalone versions of WordPerfect® 6.1 or Quattro Pro® 6.0 for Windows 3.1 also qualify for a free license upgrade to the Windows 95 versions of these applications.

Novell has also extended its PerfectOffice summer retail promotion so that customers who purchase PerfectOffice 3.0 from now until October 31, 1995 qualify for a $50 rebate on their purchase of the Microsoft® Windows 95 operating system. Customers can get the promotional coupon from their reseller and mail it to Novell, along with receipts from both PerfectOffice and the Windows 95 operating system, to receive the $50 rebate.

"We want to provide customers with a painless upgrade path to PerfectOffice for Windows 95," said Mark Calkins, general manager and vice president of Novell's Business Applications. "This allows customers to buy PerfectOffice 3.0 with confidence today and upgrade to PerfectOffice for Windows 95 for free after they have had a chance to evaluate the new Windows 95 operating system."

The current PerfectOffice 3.0 for Windows began shipping in January 1995 and has emerged as the new technological leader in the suite market, winning every major industry review since its release. The Standard edition of PerfectOffice contains the award-winning WordPerfect word processor; Quattro Pro spreadsheet; Presentations, a presentation graphics package; InfoCentral®, a personal information manager; Envoy®, a document publishing tool; and a client license for GroupWise®, Novell's advanced messaging product. The Professional Edition includes all of these products, as well as the Paradox® database and AppWare®, a visual development tool. Novell will continue development for the 16-bit version of PerfectOffice for customers who are not planning to upgrade to 32-bit Windows 95 applications right away.

"Continued support for 16-bit applications is important for corporate customers who are making a gradual transition to Windows 95," said Mary Conti Loffredo, PC and consumer software research manager at International Data Corporation. A recent IDC survey of 400 corporate buyers indicates that among those who plan to upgrade to Windows 95, 80 percent said it was not necessary to upgrade to Windows 95-based applications in the near term.

"Novell is committed to offer the best suite solution for both 16-bit and 32-bit Windows platforms," said Calkins.

The free license upgrade offer gives customers a product license with the option to purchase media and documentation separately. For more information about PerfectOffice, customers can call Novell at (800) 451-5151 or access Novell's Home Page at http://www.novell.com.
