Novell Prepares for New Applications Courses with New Instructor Certification and
State-of-the-Art Program for "Training the Trainer"
Early Adopter of New Technical Trainer Program from Educational Testing Service
OREM, Utah -- September 6, 1995 --Gearing up to train end
users on its applications software, Novell, Inc.®, is adding the Novell
Applications Instructor, a new certification program that leverages
Novell's existing training infrastructure and relationships to train end
users on the company's desktop application tools. Novell Applications
Instructors will focus their training on the PerfectOffice® suite, with the
goal of helping users perform their jobs more efficiently and productively.
Novell is giving WordPerfect Certified Instructors (CIs) and Certified
Novell Instructors (CNIs) the option to migrate to the Novell Applications
Instructor program at no cost, and is giving new applications instructors
several options to complete their instructor evaluations.
Candidates for the Novell Applications Instructor certification have
three options for completing the evaluation portion of the certification
process. They may go through an Instructor Performance Evaluation
(IPE) at a Novell Technology Institute site, or go through the new Certified
Technical Trainer (CTT) evaluation program, developed by Educational
Testing Service (ETS). Candidates that have already certified as Lotus or
Microsoft trainers may waive the instructor evaluation portion of the
certification process altogether.
"The Novell Applications Instructor program provides a significant
component to the Novell training channel," said Gary Clark, Director of
Programs and Services for Novell Education. "We are continuing with the
high-quality instruction standards that have made our CNI program the
global standard for excellence in technical training, while making the
process of getting evaluated as an instructor more accessible than ever
before."
The Certified Technical Trainer evaluation program was
developed by ETS through the collaborative efforts of the Computer
Education Management Association (CEdMA) and the Information
Technology Training Association, Inc. (ITTA). Certified Technical Trainer
examinations measure an individual's mastery of fundamental instructor
knowledge and classroom performance, as defined by the International
Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (ibstipi).
"Educational Testing Service developed the Certified Technical
Trainer program to help define and establish professional standards
throughout the technical training industry," said Alice J. Irby, Vice
President of the ETS Center for Occupational and Professional
Assessment. "This ground-breaking program could not have gotten off
the ground without a major commitment from leading software companies
such as Novell, which has been a major contributor in moving this project
forward."
Novell Applications Instructors complement CNIs, who train
network administrators and CNE candidates in the NetWare network
operating system and other Novell systems software products. Novell
anticipates strong market demand for end-user applications training, with
some studies indicating potential demand up to 25 times greater than that
for systems software training.
