Novell And Hewlett-Packard Form Strategic Relationship to Support TUXEDO System

Hewlett-Packard to Include TUXEDO in Middleware-Engineering Initiative

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- September 18, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that Hewlett-Packard (HP) will support Novell's TUXEDO System, the market leading open transaction processing monitor, as part of HP's middleware engineering initiative (MEI). The initiative is designed to reduce deployment time for business-critical distributed on-line transaction processing (OLTP). TUXEDO provides the most advanced on-line transaction processing monitor available today for developing and deploying distributed mission-critical client/server applications.

This partnership enables Novell and HP customers to utilize TUXEDO in mission-critical enterprise environments on HP 9000 computers. In addition, it provides TUXEDO customers with additional third-party tools for developing and deploying distributed mission-critical, client/server applications on the HP 9000. BMC Software, Dynasty Technologies, Inc., JYACC, MAGNA Software Corp., and ITI are among the many third-party vendors now supporting TUXEDO on the HP 9000.

"Hewlett-Packard is the highest volume platform for Novell's TUXEDO System," said Doug Gibson, delivery marketing manager for HP's General Systems Division. "This relationship will vastly increase both Hewlett-Packard's installed base of TUXEDO and TUXEDO's installed base on HP, enabling customers to easily develop and deploy TUXEDO as part of Hewlett-Packard solutions."

Novell today also announced compatibility of its TUXEDO System for the newest version of Hewlett-Packard's industry leading UNIX operating system, HP-UX Version 10.0. Customers can now combine the most advanced transaction processing monitor available today with the enhanced system services of HP-UX 10.0.

"Novell and HP are working hand in hand to provide our customers with the best solutions for their enterprise computing needs. We are both heavily focusing our product lines on management, ease-of-use, reliability, scalability and performance, all of which are key elements of successful enterprise solutions," said Joe Menard, vice president and general manager of Novell's Distributed Services Division "Our strong relationship with Hewlett-Packard enables us to optimize TUXEDO for HP environments, and in cooperation with HP's System Integrators to rapidly develop and deploy OLTP solutions for our customers."

Novell's TUXEDO System provides an architecture for developing and deploying mission-critical business applications in distributed, multi-tier client/server environments. TUXEDO also provides a secure, cost-effective, high performance environment for electronic commerce in industries such as banking, telecommunications, finance and retail.
