Novell Modifies Certification Criteria for "Yes" Co-Branded Products

San Jose, Calif. -- September 15, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. Today formalized a modification to its hardware certification requirements for its highly successful "Yes" program. The change is designed to ultimately give customers greater confidence that Novell-certified products bearing a "Yes" logo will run optimally with Novell products.

The program modification, which takes effect immediately, involves putting third party hardware products through the same rigorous testing and certification procedures as those required under the "Yes Tested and Approved" portion of the Yes program. The new equalized testing criteria for hardware products are the only approved testing for "Yes" certification. This modification eliminates the certification for hardware under the "Yes It Runs With NetWare" portion of the program.

"Many customers were confused by the two certification logos and exactly what each one meant," said Gary Mueller, vice president of Novell Developer Relations. "The modification eliminates that confusion, creates consistent certification standards for hardware and ultimately instills greater customer confidence in the many 'Yes NetWare Tested and Approved' products on the market." "NetWare Tested and Approved" certification from Novell means a product has passed rigorous testing that conclusively demonstrates it works in a Novell environment.

Novell also works closely with manufacturers in the "Tested and Approved" program to ensure their products meet Novell's strict quality standards. Technical information gathered during the testing process is forwarded to Novell's Technical Services department, resulting in the best possible technical support from Novell.
