Novell's NetWare Navigator 3.01 Now Available As Integrated Managewise 2.0 Option Enterprise-Class Software Distribution Product Offered as Optional Snap-In Application for Market Leading Management Product DALLAS, Texas -- Enterprise Management Summit -- October 23, 1995 -- Novell Inc. today announced that NetWare Navigator, Novell's scalable enterprise-class software distribution product, is now available as an integrated option for ManageWise, the market leading systems and network management product from Novell and Intel.NetWare Navigator installs and upgrades operating systems, applications and data files across a NetWare network from a central location and scales to meet the needs of any sized network, from small, single server environments to vast multi-site networks. NetWare Navigator now integrates with ManageWise 2.0, allowing the network manager to launch NetWare Navigator directly from the ManageWise console. Combining NetWare Navigator with ManageWise promotes the end to end management model; network managers can move seamlessly from management and administration to problem resolution by downloading and installing new applications, editing configuration files or correcting errors in desktop operating environments. Centralized software distribution saves the cost, time and inconvenience of installing software individually on multiple workstations, virtually eliminating "sneaker net." NetWare Navigator is architected to consume minimal LAN and WAN bandwidth, reducing both network intrusiveness and the cost of leased-line connections. Because it deploys on the existing NetWare infrastructure, it also eliminates the cost of adding additional equipment. NetWare Navigator distributes data quickly and cost-effectively; lets system administrators monitor the distribution process from a central Windows-based console; provides detailed reports; automatically schedules various distribution functions; and enables automated, unattended data and software distribution. Clients supported include DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and OS/2. Integrating NetWare Navigator and ManageWise has a positive effect on management outsourcing as well. The Novell reseller channel can now use ManageWise and NetWare Navigator together to provide enterprise-class service for their smaller customers. Resellers can deploy ManageWise services at customer site, while using the ManageWise console to view and manage the remote networks from their own office. The reseller will be immediately notified of any problems on the customer networks, and can diagnose and fix the problems without a site visit. Should software patches or new versions of software become available, resellers can use NetWare Navigator to silently distribute and perform unattended installation to their customers, at a time convenient to their customers. NetWare Navigator 3.01 is available now and ranges in list price from $995 for a 25-user license to $30,000 for a 2,000-user license.
