Novell Announces Force Reductions Related to Business Applications

Orem, UT -- November, 16, 1995 -- Following its decision announced October 30 to sell its Business Applications Division, Novell, Inc. today announced force reductions of approximately 420 people in the division and related support functions worldwide. Novell is enacting the force reductions to size the division to its current level of business and prepare it for sale. Novell expects to complete the sale of the division by the end of its first fiscal quarter, ending January 27, 1995.

Personnel affected by the force reductions include 70 people let go in the first two weeks of November and approximately 350 more let go this week. The affected employees worked in all areas of the division, including technical support, engineering, and marketing. Approximately 380 of the affected employees worked in Utah, with the remainder from Novell facilities throughout the United States and around the world.

All affected Novell employees receive the company's standard severance and assistance package. The severance package, based on the employee's position and years with the company, includes a minimum of six weeks pay. Novell is also making out-placement services available to assist employees in making the transition to new jobs.

To assist affected employees, Novell is hosting an Outplacement Job Fair in the Provo, Utah area on November 29. Over 20 leading Utah-area employers including Evans and Sutherland, Intel, Iomega, and Micron will be on hand to conduct interviews for job placement.

Following the force reduction, Novell total employment stands at approximately 7,000.
