Dataquest Figures Show Novell With 66% of European Network Operating System Market

December 4th. 1995--According to figures just released by market research firm Dataquest, NetWare remains the leading network operating system in Europe, accounting for 66% of unit shipments in 1994. Novell's closest rival in this market place was IBM with 13%. Alison Taylor, industry analyst at Dataquest says, "Despite the fears in certain quarters with regard to Microsoft NT Server, Novell remains the European leader in the network operating system market with NetWare continuing to show strong growth".

NetWare revenues continue to rise

Novell saw a revenue increase of 26% for NetWare in Europe in the first nine months of its 1995 fiscal year, which began 1st November 1994, compared with the same period for the previous fiscal year. New NetWare 4 business, which does not include upgrades, accounts for 74% of the growth in revenue. NetWare's installed base is now 50 million users worldwide.

"NetWare 4.1 now accounts for 50% of all NetWare sales and has surpassed sales of all previous versions of NetWare," says Graeme Allan, Market Relations Director, Novell Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Increasing numbers of users are recognising the cost savings and gains in productivity that NetWare provides through NetWare Connect Services, which helps users collaborate and communicate more effectively, and NetWare Directory Services (NDS). NDS is the de facto world standard for distributed network directories - a combination of yellow and white pages that enables network users to easily identify, access and connect with information resources and other people."

Novell has formed strategic partnerships with leading telecommunications carriers including AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, NTT, Telstra, and Unisource, who have recently announced plans to use networking and directory technology from Novell to offer new business networking services. Novell's strength in network services combined with these strategic partnerships demonstrate the company's commitment to the future of networking.
