Novell Delivers Tools, Services and Solutions for
Small Business Networks
New Business Unit Helps Small Businesses and Resellers Meet
Networking Needs
OREM, Utah -- March 6, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. showcased new
tools and services from its small business network unit at today's Novell
Satellite Days broadcast. The new business unit, headed by Ed Bartos,
senior vice president and general manager, is dedicated to providing
network solutions to meet the specific needs of small businesses. The
new business unit will build on Novell's market-leading position by
combining Novell technologies into new, aggressively-priced solutions
specifically engineered to help growing small businesses improve their
productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.
"Novell is taking its advanced networking technology, proven in
the enterprise market, and using it to create turnkey solutions ideal for
the small business market segment," said Bartos. "We have the right
channels to reach this market, with over 25,000 resellers and 70,000
CNEs trained to deliver our products worldwide. We are aggressively
pursuing this fast-growing market by creating bundled solutions aimed at
the distinct needs of the small business customer."
Novell's small business solutions will help companies pare costs
and enhance revenue by operating more efficiently, effectively and
productively. These solutions will enable small businesses to create
smart local area networks (LANs) to share resources, access the
information they need and improve communications. The Novell smart
network solutions will help small businesses reach out to the Internet and
create intranets to link them to their customers, suppliers and other
companies.
"After the purchase of personal computers, networking is the
single best investment a small business can make to improve its bottom
line," Bartos added. "As the market leader, Novell is the networking
partner small businesses can trust to increase their productivity and
profitability, and reduce their risk. In fact, 55 percent of the small
business networks in place today are based on Novell NetWare#, the
industry's leading network operating system."
Novell partners with key OEMs to provide turnkey solutions
designed to meet the specific needs of small businesses. The first of
these solutions, the IBM PC Server 310 Small Business Solution, is
already available through resellers. A joint initiative of Novell, IBM and
Cheyenne, the IBM Small Business Solution features an IBM PC Server
310 pre-installed with the Novell NetWare 4.1 network operating system,
Novell GroupWise# e-mail and group computing software, the Corel
PerfectOffice applications suite and Cheyenne FAXserve fax software.
Tools and Services Help Users Connect
Novell is already providing a number of tools and services to help
small businesses and their resellers meet the networking needs of this
market. On Novell's Small Business Web site
(http://netware.novell.com/smallbiz), users can take an online tour of
Novell's small business solutions or sign up for the Online Update Club.
Registered club members periodically receive advice and news about
networking, Novell and small business via e-mail. Visitors to Novell's
Small Business Web site can also hotlink to other small business-related
sites or download Novell's Small Business Network Advisor tool.
The Small Business Network Advisor tool enables users to design
their own network and generates a diagram and technology shopping list
that they can take to their reseller. Resellers can use the tool to help
customers envision their networking needs. Some 10,000 copies of the
tool are already in use today, helping customers and resellers make the
right networking decisions. The tool is widely available at tradeshows,
seminars, Novell sales offices and other forums.
Novell is also partnering with its resellers to improve the level of
support and reliability for small business networks. Novell has created
ManageWise# Remote Services, a solution that gives resellers the tools
and techniques they need to launch remote management businesses.
ManageWise Remote Services is based on ManageWise and NetWare
Multiprotocol Router#, Novell's industry-leading management and routing
solutions. With ManageWise Remote Services, resellers are immediately
notified of any problems on a customer's network and can diagnose and
fix problems without an on-site visit. Small businesses now have the
convenience and flexibility of 24-hour network support, allowing them to
focus on their core business.
