Novell Wins "Product of the Year" Awards From LAN Magazine
NEST and GroupWise Win Honors in Technology and
E-Mail/Messaging Categories
OREM, Utah -- March 18, 1996 -- Novell, Inc.'s Novell Embedded
Systems Technology (NEST) and GroupWise® were selected as the
winners of the 1996 LAN Magazine Products of the Year award in the
Technology and E-Mail/Messaging categories respectively.
The selection criteria was based on a product's overall
innovation, originality and ability to drive networking technology into the
next decade. Winners were selected by LAN Magazine editors who
consulted with integrators, analysts, industry luminaries, as well as LAN
Magazine readers, writers and product reviewers.
Melanie McMullen, LAN Magazine editor-in chief and a judge for
the awards said, "NEST marks a significant advancement in networking
technology. Since its launch in February of last year, NEST has
dramatically extended the connectivity solutions that manufacturers can
build into their products. With the recent addition of TCP/IP, NEST is
positioned to become the leading technology for connecting information
appliances to the Internet."
McMullen was also impressed with GroupWise. "This year, we
believe GroupWise was the strongest in its category. GroupWise was
selected as Product of the Year for its ease-of-use, advanced
messaging, seamless integration into the network and office environment
and for its Universal In Box. The products which earn our accolades
truly distinguish themselves and represent themselves as leaders in their
class," noted McMullen.
"We are excited to receive the 1996 Technology of the Year
award from LAN Magazine and join a select group of past winners,
including the Power PC and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)," said
John Enslow, acting vice president and general manager of Novell's
Extended Networks Division. "The rapid adoption of NEST by Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) demonstrates a powerful new
paradigm for extending the network beyond traditional computing
environments and connecting all types of information appliances to any
type of network."
GroupWise customers also validate LAN Magazine's selection of
GroupWise Product of the Year for its innovation and ability to drive
networking technology. "With GroupWise, our physicians and
practitioners now communicate almost instantaneously with each other
and with four other Dallas-area hospitals," said Don Ramsey, information
technology architect of the Dallas Children's Medical Center. "When
implementing a cross-hospital initiative in which a group of people are
involved, we simply use the calendar and scheduling features to reach
multiple people in multiple places. Overall, GroupWise has enhanced our
productivity and ability to collaborate more effectively, saving us time and
money."
NEST -- Technology of the Year
Novell Embedded Systems Technology (NEST) gives Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and developers a flexible, compact,
affordable solution for creating products that can be plugged directly into
both private business networks and public global networks like the
Internet. More than 75 OEMs, including office equipment giants Canon,
Hewlett-Packard, Ricoh, and Xerox, have partnered with Novell to
develop over 200 NEST-enabled products, with several now shipping
and dozens more to ship this year.
"Productivity is driven by companies who provide users with
efficient options, and we believe NEST will allow the user of Canon
products to better do the jobs they perform day in and day out," said
Ryoichi Bamba, Vice President and General Manager of Imaging Systems
Marketing, Canon USA.
GroupWise -- E-Mail/Messaging Product of the Year
