Novell Announces Promotion In Education Business Unit

Carolyn G. Rose Promoted to Senior Vice President/General Manager

OREM, Utah -- March 19, 1996 -- Novell Inc. has announced the promotion of Carolyn G. Rose to Senior Vice President/General Manager of Novell Education. In this capacity, Rose continues to report to Mary M. Burnside, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Novell.

"Offering solutions to customers means providing more than just products," said Burnside. "Carolyn's promotion underscores the value of Novell Education to our customers and to our channel. Novell continues in its commitment to its leadership position in Information Technology (IT) training in the networking industry."

Rose's "leveraged model" of IT training has clearly established Novell as the industry pioneer and leader in IT training. Through an unparalleled global channel of more than 1,450 Novell Authorized Education Centers (NAECs) and 150 Novell Education Academic Partners (NEAPs) worldwide, Novell has trained more than two million student customers.

Nearly 200,000 individuals have completed Novell's rigorous certification testing to achieve the CNE, Master CNE, Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) and Certified Novell Instructors (CNI) certifications. There are an additional 125,000 "candidates-in-progress" in these programs. Novell has more than a decade of experience in certification, and this month celebrates the impact of these certified individuals on the IT industry through "Certification Month" activities at BrainShare USA.

Based in Novell's San Jose, Calif. office, Rose joined Novell in June of 1989, through the acquisition of Excelan, where she was manager of technical training. Within nine months, Rose was named director of education, and was honored as the 1990 Novell Employee of the Year. Rose was promoted to vice president in 1991 and became vice president/general manager when Novell Chairman and CEO Robert Frankenberg established Education as a Novell business unit in April, 1994. That spring she was named a TWIN (Tribute to Women and Industry) honoree by the YWCA. In 1995 her accomplishments in creating the most powerful global education channel in the IT industry were honored by the Information Technology Training Association, and she was awarded the EDDY Award for Excellence.
