Novell to License Quarterdeck Product For Upcoming Intranet Publishing Solution

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 27, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. and Quarterdeck Corporation today announced an agreement whereby Quarterdeck will provide a product to enable NetWare customers to access their internal Web servers via Novell's Internet Packet eXchange (IPX) protocol. This means that NetWare® customers will not have to install Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stacks on every desktop to connect to their intranets. The Quarterdeck product will be part of Novell's intranet-publishing offering that will be announced at Internet World next month.

"Novell's NetWare is clearly the hands-down leader in networking and the Internet is, after all, simply a network of networks," said Gaston Bastiaens, president and CEO of Quarterdeck. "We are pleased to be a part of the next stage of Novell's intranet-publishing solution. This agreement will help us expand our presence among the NetWare installed base and validate our position in this burgeoning market."

"Quarterdeck's market-leading software complements Novell's technology perfectly and will play a key role in enabling Novell to offer a complete intranet-publishing solution," said Mark Griffiths, director of product marketing for Novell's Internet Commerce Division. "We are excited to be working with Quarterdeck to help our 50 million NetWare users install their intranets quickly and easily, and help make client/network computing a reality," he said.
