60,000 Microsoft Mail Users Choose Novell GroupWise
1,250 Organizations Look to GroupWise for Better Messaging
Solution
OREM, Utah -- June 17, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today
announced that 60,000 Microsoft Mail users at 1,250 organizations have
switched to Novell GroupWise 4.1, a leading messaging solution that
currently boasts more than 6 million users worldwide. The conversions
are the result of a recent promotion that offered 50 free GroupWise 4.1
client licenses, along with the GroupWise 4.1 migration and upgrade
package, to NetWare customers currently running Microsoft Mail (MS
Mail). Announced in April after the release of Microsoft Exchange 1.0,
the promotion was designed to introduce GroupWise to MS Mail users
and to provide them with a robust messaging alternative to Exchange.
Due to the overwhelming response, Novell plans to continue the
promotion through July 31.
"Response to this program has exceeded our expectations and clearly
demonstrates that GroupWise 4.1 fills a void for users whose current
E-mail packages lack our full functionality," said Stewart Nelson, vice
president and general manager of Novell's GroupWare Division. "With its
ease of use, multiple-platform support and robust network administration
capabilities, GroupWise offers a compelling alternative to other
messaging and collaborative computing products."
As the 1996 winner of PC Week's First Annual Corporate IT Excellence
Award for Best GroupWare/Mail Solution, GroupWise 4.1 is the
industry's premier enterprise-wide, collaborative computing application; it
fully integrates E-mail, voice messaging, faxing, group scheduling, easy
access to the World Wide Web, personal calendaring, rules-based
management and task management.
The GroupWise Universal In Box allows users to access, respond to and
forward electronic and voice information from one location, simplifying
group communication and collaboration across the network.
"By switching to GroupWise, we will be able to significantly increase
end-user productivity," said Mike Aken, IS Manager at the Arizona State
Office of Tourism in Phoenix, an organization that took advantage of the
promotion. "GroupWise's tightly integrated messaging and scheduling
capabilities will allow our users to work as a team, no matter where they
are located. We expect it to become as essential to our communication
as the telephone."
The next generation of the product, GroupWise 5, is currently in beta
testing and scheduled to ship later this summer. GroupWise 5 will keep
Novell at the forefront of collaborative technology with an expanded
client/server E-mail system that seamlessly integrates
calendaring/scheduling, document management, task management,
shared folders, conferencing, workflow and Internet access into a new
Universal Mail Box. Both GroupWise 4.1 and GroupWise 5 leverage the
administration and management capabilities offered by Novell's NetWare
Administration Module (NWADMIN) and Novell Directory Service (NDS),
which help organizations administer their network and GroupWise from a
single location.
