Novell Introduces Banyan Premiere Migration Program To Help Vines Users Transition to NetWare 4

Limited-Time Offer Provides Product Discounts, Migration Tools and Consulting Services To Simplify Switch To NetWare

OREM, Utah -- July 18, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today introduced the Banyan Premiere Migration Program to ease transitions to NetWare® 4 from the Banyan Vines network operating system. Scheduled to run through October 15, this program offers Vines users everything they need to move to NetWare 4.1, including product pricing discounts, migration tools, accelerated and discounted training and consulting services. With industry-leading network services, including its global directory, Novell Directory Services™ (NDS™), NetWare 4 is a natural migration choice for Banyan customers who consider a global directory to be an integral part of their networking foundation.

"Vines-to-NetWare 4 migration continues to accelerate," said William Donahoo, senior director of product marketing for Novell NetWare. "NetWare 4 is the best choice for Vines users who want to move to a more robust, full-featured and viable networking platform because they can leverage their directory experience, take advantage of more than 6,000 third-party applications and services, and base their networks on the industry's most reliable, best-supported networking platform. With the fall release of Green River, the latest version of the NetWare 4 platform, Novell continues to provide the networking infrastructure customers rely on to expand their NetWare 4 networks to include corporate intranets and the Internet."

Benefits of NetWare 4 and NDS

With a worldwide installed base of more than 15 million users, NetWare 4 is widely accepted by networking professionals as the industry's proven, scaleable and secure networking platform. More third-party applications are available for NetWare than for any other networking platform, and more than 200,000 certified professionals support it. NetWare 4's NDS provides Vines users with all the directory capabilities they've come to expect, including easy access to network information and resources, and the efficiency of a single point of network administration. Additionally, NDS offers administrators features not found with any other directory service, such as a single graphical user interface for simple administration; a fully extensible and distributed database that allows for 24 x 7 operation; and an unlimited hierarchical structure that allows network administrators to configure their companies' networks to model their companies' organizational structure, instead of requiring t! hose companies to adhere to network structure limitations dictated by their network choice. NetWare 4 and NDS give organizations an enduring competitive edge by enabling them to connect to more of the people, information and resources they need.

The Williams Companies, a national energy services provider, is confident that moving to a NetWare-based enterprise will help them meet their business objectives in the future. "We reached a point where we could no longer progress with Vines," said The Williams Companies' Steve Huff. "Many third-party developers create applications for NetWare first. We got tired of going to seminars and getting excited about new applications only to come home and find that they weren't available on Vines."
