Novell Integrates Corporate Marketing Functions Within Sales Organization and Product Group
OREM, Utah -- July 18, 1996-- Novell, Inc. today
announced it has moved previously separate corporate marketing
functions to its Worldwide Sales organization and the Novell Products
Group, the two units directly responsible for developing and delivering
Novell products into the marketplace.
The action reflects a new Novell emphasis on marketing network
solutions by aligning responsibility for these efforts with the company's
product organization and sales. Joe Marengi, executive vice president,
worldwide sales, assumes responsibility for all sales-related marketing
services including events, trade shows, lead fulfillment and Novell's
presence on the World Wide Web. Steve Markman, executive vice
president, and general manager Novell Products Group, assumes
responsibility for advertising, public relations and industry analyst
relations.
Established teams within corporate marketing have been moved to create
the new reporting structure. Over the last six months these teams have
developed new programs to address product and solutions marketing
around a focused set of "Power Brands." This September, these
programs will unfold as part of a major Novell marketing initiative timed
with the introduction of significant new products, including: the Green
River release of the NetWare 4 server operating system, the GroupWise
5 E-mail and messaging solution, and ManageWise 2.1 network
management software.
The company's decision to meld corporate marketing functions within the
product and sales organization means it has moved from a separate
corporate marketing organization to an integrated model. Christine
Hughes, who has held the position of senior vice president corporate
marketing since early 1995, will leave Novell to pursue other
opportunities. "Christine has built a valuable base of talented people, new
teams and marketing programs," said Bob Frankenberg, chairman and
CEO of Novell. "Our ongoing marketing efforts will benefit from her
leadership in branding and her contribution in setting new standards for
Novell marketing."
An additional reporting structure change has been made within the Novell
Products Group. Group operations, which includes group planning and
marketing, will report directly to Markman. With this change, Jeff
Waxman, senior vice president and general manager, group operations,
will leave Novell to pursue other opportunities. Waxman, who initially
joined Novell to manage the WordPerfect organization, has helped Novell
complete the sale of WordPerfect product lines and build a new
organization structure within the Novell Products Group. Frankenberg
said, "We appreciate the commitment Jeff made to Novell and his role in
helping to quickly and effectively refocus Novell around network
software."
