Novell Announces Streamlined NetWare Upgrade Program
Orem, Utah -- July 23, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today
announced the implementation of a new NetWare Upgrade Activation
Program to begin with the shipment of activation key-enabled upgrade
software the week of August 5, 1996. The new program will streamline
the upgrade process for all Novell partners and customers involved in
NetWare upgrade purchases.
Novell has designed the new upgrade program to ensure that current
NetWare and network users worldwide obtain legitimate software usage
licenses when purchasing NetWare upgrades.
The new program also allows Novell channel partners to enhance their
competitiveness and increase their efficiency by simplifying the upgrade
sales process.
"Novell's new NetWare upgrade program will allow Devise Associates to
be even more competitive in selling NetWare because of the true
differentiation between new and upgrade purchases that the program
creates," said Greg Uehling, executive vice president and director of
sales and marketing, Devise Associates, Inc.
Novell's previous upgrade program required that an upgrade registration
form including the upgrade serial number and a photocopy or actual
license diskette of the customer's current license be submitted by the
reseller to the distributor prior to the sale of an upgrade.
Now, customers can purchase the upgrade without pre-sale registration
and simply obtain an activation key from Novell prior to installation.
The activation key itself is a unique number assigned by Novell that
"unlocks" the upgrade license and allows the customer to install the
upgrade. All NetWare upgrades requiring this key will be clearly marked.
Customers, or resellers acting on behalf of customers, can obtain their
activation key by filling out and faxing a short form included in the
upgrade box to the nearest Novell Upgrade Activation Center. Users will
provide information on the form including the serial number and user
count of the product being upgraded and their return fax number. Novell
will then return the activation key by the same or next business day.
Most activation keys will be returned within four hours of the receipt of
the required registration information.
"Novell is continually working to accommodate the needs of its partners
and customers by seeking and acting on their feedback," said Ron Heinz,
senior vice president, North American and channel sales. "The NetWare
Upgrade Activation Program is another example of Novell's
responsiveness to the market and continued commitment to make the
upgrade transition smooth."
