Novell Directory Services Update Now Available to all NetWare 4.1
Users
Enhancements Improve Network Performance
What:
Novell today announced the availability of a Novell Directory
Services™ (NDS™) Update. The update significantly improves
NDS capabilities, enabling users to enjoy improved performance and
flexibility in their NetWare® 4.1 network directory. Novell is
delivering the NDS update as a single set of NetWare Loadable Module
(NLM) files that network administrators can easily install onto existing
NetWare 4.1 networks with no disturbance to users.
The enhancement consists of a new DS.NLM (version 5.01) and a new
DSREPAIR.NLM that improve message transmission accuracy by
providing the following protocol-independent features:
- Prevents corruption sometimes encountered during transmission,
especially with some older hardware
- Cuts tree repair time on large networks by as much as 70 percent
- Identifies and contains corrupted tree segments to protect the rest of
the network
Finally, the update serves as an intermediate step to Green River
functionality. Novell strongly recommends all NetWare 4.x customers
download this update, which is available free to registered NetWare 4
users. Implementation of this NDS update is suggested for organizations
planning to run both NetWare 4 and Green River as part of their upgrade
process.
When:
The NDS Update is available now. Network administrators can install the
update over existing NLMs, and full installation instructions are included.
