Novell Shipping LAN WorkPlace Pro for Windows 95/NT
OREM, Utah -- July 31, 1996 -- Novell today
announced that it is now shipping LAN WorkPlace® Pro for
Windows® 95/NT. This new version of Novell's leading integrated
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) applications suite
enables users to transparently access, share and retrieve data and
applications across an intranet or the Internet.
LAN WorkPlace Pro significantly extends the TCP/IP-application
functionality available in the Windows 95/NT operating systems.
Specifically, the product includes several other features such as
improved Internet access, single and shared installation for desktop or
server administration, terminal emulation capability, file and print services,
and X-server capability.
"LAN WorkPlace Pro provides the really useful Internet tools that users
need in one place," said Becki Harte, chief information officer of BRTRC,
a defense contractor based in Fairfax, Virginia. "The product is well
integrated. The tools work well together and have a common interface. I
particularly use Telnet, the Netscape Navigator, the news groups and
RFTP," she added.
Mike Burstein, IT technical consultant for Cargill, a Minneapolis-based
processor and distributor of agricultural commodities, concurs. "We are
rolling out a single mail package to a large number of users and LAN
WorkPlace Pro is an integral part of that process. Having Netscape
Navigator is very important. We have a large number of UNIX boxes so
the Telnet and FTP capabilities are also quite useful," he said.
"LAN WorkPlace Pro is integrated very nicely with Windows 95," said
Randy Schultz, network administrator of Plastomer, a manufacturing firm
headquartered in Livonia, Michigan. "One of the nicest things is the
install. You load it up and it's ready to go with very little configuration.
The functionality is just fantastic. The product has everything you would
want to do. We particularly use the TelNet, Serving FTP and Rapid FTP.
Indeed, that capability has been the key to this company moving to
Windows 95. We tested this product on both a server and on individual
desktops. It works great either way," he added.
LAN WorkPlace Pro, which utilizes the TCP/IP stack and dialer included in
Windows 95 and NT, is targeted at NetWare users of those desktop
environments. The new version expands Novell's LAN WorkPlace
product line, which already includes products for DOS and Windows 3.x,
and has an installed base of more than 3.5 million.
LAN WorkPlace Pro is available through Authorized Novell Channel
Partners for the suggested single-user retail price of US$249. Multi-user
licenses are also available for 10, 50, 100 and 250 users with prices as
low as $40 per user.
