Novell Announces Strategic Partnership with Franklin Quest

Industry Leaders in Time Management Join Forces to Incorporate Franklin Quest-Standard Print Formats into GroupWise

OREM, Utah -- August 28, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced an agreement with Franklin Quest Co. that lets GroupWise 5 users print calendars in the Franklin Day Planner® System format from their desktops. This agreement gives GroupWise users the ability to leverage the powerful electronic calendaring and scheduling features of GroupWise with the portability and freedom of the Franklin Day Planner System to access their calendar when traveling or attending meetings.

"This agreement enables Franklin Quest and GroupWise users to maximize the best features of two robust time management systems," said Owen Peterson, senior vice president, Franklin Quest. "The corporate world is still far from being paperless, and many users prefer a combination of electronic and paper information. By combining these two options, Novell gives users the freedom to integrate their online and hardcopy calendaring and scheduling."

Under the terms of the agreement, Novell will integrate Franklin Quest's print engine into GroupWise 5, allowing users to select from a variety of Franklin Quest binder models, paper sizes and styles, as well as an array of page layouts, including daily, weekly or monthly appointments, calendar notes, tasks and meeting locations. Franklin Quest printing capabilities will be available at no additional cost in the first shipment of GroupWise 5.

"As two leading companies in time management, our partnership was the perfect solution for our customers," said Stewart Nelson, vice president and general manager of Novell's GroupWare Division. "Franklin Quest has been recognized as an organizational standard in offices throughout the world. For Novell, this is another example of the company's continued support of corporate standards and ability to leverage customer's existing investments to enhance end-user productivity and efficiency."

GroupWise 5, Novell's premier Intranet application, is an expanded E-mail system that is the first in the industry to include full document management capabilities as part of a new Universal Mail Box.
