Novell Board of Directors Names John Young Chairman and
Joe Marengi as President, to Replace Bob Frankenberg
OREM, Utah -- August 29, 1996 -- The Board of
Directors of Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL) today announced the
resignation of Robert J. Frankenberg as chairman, president, and chief
executive officer. John A. Young, a member of the Novell board of
directors, and past president and chief executive officer of
Hewlett-Packard Company, has been named chairman of the board.
Joseph A. Marengi, formerly executive vice president, worldwide sales
at Novell, has been named president. The board also announced that it
has commenced a search for a new chief executive officer.
As chairman, Young, who is 64, will be actively involved in overseeing
management of the company until the appointment of a new chief
executive officer. Marengi, who is 43, will report to Young. Young was
president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company for
fifteen years through 1992. He joined the Novell board of directors in
January 1995. Young holds numerous industry leadership positions and
is co-chairman of the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and
Technology.
Marengi has been the lead sales executive at Novell since 1990,
providing key leadership to build the company's multi-tiered channel of
distribution, reseller and OEM partners worldwide. Worldwide sales
continues to report to Marengi.
Frankenberg is leaving Novell after almost two and a half years. He
joined Novell as president and chief executive officer in April, 1994 and
was named chairman of the board of directors in August of that year. He
presided over Novell during a period marked by the acquisition and then
sale of WordPerfect, and the refocus of the company to its position of
leadership in network software.
