Eicon Announces Support for Novell's new
IntranetWare
Eicon ISDN and WAN Drivers to ship with
IntranetWare
MONTREAL -- August 26, 1996 -- Eicon Technology
announced today integrated wide area networking support for Novell's
new IntranetWare product, the full service intranet and Internet
access platform. Using Eicon's line of high performance WAN and ISDN
adapters in conjunction with IntranetWare, corporations can easily
evolve their LANs to corporate intranet and/or Internet services over
wide area networks such as ISDN, X.25, Frame Relay or PPP leased
lines. Eicon adapters install into IntranetWare servers, providing a
complete wide area intranet/Internet platform without the need for an
external router.
Eicon Hardware Drivers Integrated in Novell IntranetWare
Shipping with the IntranetWare solution from Novell are drivers for
Eicon's ISDN and WAN interface adapters. These drivers support ISDN
Basic Rate Interface (BRI), multi-BRI (4BRI) and Primary Rate Interface
(PRI) connections in addition to leased line, X.25 and Frame Relay WAN
connections. With integrated Eicon driver support, Novell's IntranetWare
is "WAN-ready" and customers need only purchase Eicon interface
cards for Internet and intranet connectivity.
"Novell's IntranetWare solution was designed to provide businesses with
all the necessary network infrastructure to build their corporate intranet
and Internet connections." said Denice Gibson, senior vice president and
general manager for Novell Distributed Networks Business Unit. "Eicon
Technology complements this solution by offering a choice of wide area
networking options for these connections with their ISDN and WAN
interface adapters."
Moving from LAN-centric Computing to Intranet Service
Platform
As businesses migrate towards building corporate intranets and
providing Internet services to their users, they are faced with the
challenge of consolidating new wide area networks with their existing
network infrastructures. Novell's IntranetWare builds upon the NetWare
network operating system, providing the enhanced feature set (high
performance Web server and browser, IP/IPX gateway, multiprotocol
router) to facilitate this evolution from IPX or IP-based networks to
heterogeneous intranet/Internet networks.
"With IntranetWare, NetWare transitions from a LAN Operating System
into an intranet service platform," said Igor Krichevsky, Business Unit
Manager for Novell Server Business Unit at Eicon Technology. "By
enabling Internet and intranet connectivity over wide area networks,
IntranetWare facilitates the modern enterprise's requirement to unify
geographically dispersed networks. Branch offices will no longer need
to be dependent on standalone routers to connect with each other and to
the Internet because this functionality is built into the IntranetWare
platform."
Pricing and Availability
Eicon ISDN and WAN adapters which support Novell's IntranetWare are
certified by Novell Labs, and are currently shipping, with pricing starting
at $795 US.
