Novell Ships ManageWise Agent for Windows NT
Server
IS Professionals Can Now Manage Mixed NT and Novell
Servers
OREM, Utah -- September 9, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today
announced worldwide customer shipments of ManageWise Agent
for Windows NT Server 2.1, a software solution that enables network
administrators to manage mixed NetWare, IntranetWare and NT
environments from a single workstation and graphical user interface. The
new ManageWise Agent for Windows NT Server extends the capabilities
of MangeWise 2.1, Novell's comprehensive, end-to-end management
solution for LANs and intranets that increases network reliability and
performance while boosting end-user and overall business productivity.
The complete MangeWise solution now communicates NetWare,
IntranetWare and NT Server information via the industry-standard simple
network management protocol (SNMP), giving administrators the option to
manage PC LANs and intranets from enterprise consoles running popular
SNMP systems such as HP Open View, IBM System View, and SunNet
Manager.
The ManageWise Agent for Windows NT Server extends ManageWise
2.1 capabilities, enabling IS managers to proactively manage NT Servers
by collecting real-time and long-term performance trends and alarm
information for an instantaneous understanding of unusual conditions
and changing environments. It provides monitoring of all useful server
statistics, including disk I/O, memory, CPU utilization, loaded software,
network adapters, and print queues to help network managers prevent
downtime and optimize NT server performance. NT Servers are
discovered and automatically placed in the ManageWise topology map so
administrators can comprehensively document and troubleshoot their
heterogeneous PC networks.
"We want all devices tied into the same management environment," said
Simon Taufique, Network Administrator at New York University's
Controller's Division. "The ability to see NetWare and NT servers -- as
well as desktops, hubs, routers, bridges, and gateways all working
together is a great benefit. ManageWise has helped me shave off
several hours per week -- sometimes several hours per day of travel
time."
"IS managers who want to manage their mixed NT and NetWare intranets
can do it today with ManageWise 2.1 and the ManageWise Agent for
Windows NT Server," said Shelley Dougery, director of marketing for
Novell's Management Products Division. "Competitors see themselves as
the only choice, but cross-platform Novell solutions like ManageWise
enable customers to make the right choice at every point on their LAN or
intranet."
