Momentum Builds for New Standard in Networking Education--Novell Certified Internet Professional

All Courseware, Certification Exams To Ship within 45 Days Novell to Offer New Web Site, Contest

EDGE, Dallas -- September 10, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that additional courseware supporting its newest certification, the Novell Certified Internet Professional*, and all associated certification exams are scheduled to ship within 45 days. In related news, the company announced the near-term delivery of the Novell Certified Internet Professional web site and a contest to reward early adopters of the certification.

Novell chose its annual Edge channel conference, held here this week, to update its Education partners on the certification, which was originally introduced to the Novell Education channel at the Information Technology Training Assoc. (ITTA) conference in June. More than 500 North American and Latin American partners were on hand this week to hear about program and marketing developments.

Novell's newest certification program prepares and certifies those commonly referred to as "web masters" to be able to manage web sites. Topic coverage includes HTML basics, content standards and design criteria, TCP/IP and connectivity issues, capacity planning, Novell Web Server/Novell Directory Services (NDS) integration, scripting, troubleshooting and more. An understanding of core Novell technologies and solutions such as NDS and the Novell Web Server is included.

"The Novell Certified Internet Professional is the emerging global standard for harnessing the power of Internet/intranet technologies," said Carolyn G. Rose, senior vice president and general manager of Novell Education. "Novell is the first software vendor to announce and deliver an Internet certification. Novell has the momentum, the products, the partnerships, and the channel for customers to connect with success. The Novell Certified Internet Professional is a strong example of our enduring industry leadership."

All Certification Exams, Associated Courseware To Be Delivered within 45 Days

Three of the five supporting courses have been available since the announcement of the certification. The fourth course, #655 Advanced Web Authoring, is scheduled to ship to Novell Authorized Education Centers* (NAECs*) Sept. 16. The corresponding certification exam is scheduled to be available to certification candidates by the end of September through Sylvan Prometric testing centers. The final course, #656 Web Server Management, and associated examination are scheduled to be completed mid-October, providing certification candidates with a complete, Novell-authorized training and certification solution.

In addition to the new courses, the Novell Certified Internet Professional courseware includes Internet/intranet courses #652 Understanding and Applying Internet Concepts (a pre-requisite, not a certification requirement) and #654 Web Authoring and Publishing. Rounding out the curriculum are two core Novell courses, #520 NetWare 4 Administration and #605 NetWare TCP/IP Transport, which, respectively, prepare Novell Certified Internet Professionals to integrate the Novell Web Server with NDS, and provide them with an understanding of connectivity options and issues.

Developed by Internet/intranet subject matter experts at Novell and tested by web masters, Certified Novell Instructors* (CNIs*) and Novell product engineers, the courses train individuals in job skills needed to leverage the full business opportunity of the Internet and intranet, thus giving their businesses an enduring competitive edge.

New Web Site, Contest Immediate Benefits

To continue the momentum and awareness of the new certification, Novell is establishing a specific web page and is sponsoring a contest for early adopters of the certification.

The new Novell Certified Internet Professional website is scheduled to be operational Sept. 25. In the early stages of the site, visitors can find information regarding the certification and associated courses as well as be "connected" via electronic mail to NAECs in their areas offering the curriculum. Once certified, certificants will have privileged access to certification benefits via the web. The web site can be accessed at http://www.netboss.com.

In line with the "netboss" theme, Novell is sponsoring a contest for those achieving the certification. The first 500 to become certified will receive a Novell Internet T-shirt. All those who certify by March 31, 1997 will be automatically entered in a drawing for four cash prizes of US$500 and a grand prize travel voucher valued at US$5,000.

NAECs, Instructors, Students Share Enthusiasm for Internet Certification

"Both students and staff at Mt. Sierra have been anxiously awaiting the implementation of the new and highly-needed Internet certification," said Ram Gayakwad, Director of Mt. Sierra College, a Pasadena, Calif.-based NAEC. "With the high demand for Internet professionals, Novell has timed its Novell Certified Internet Professional certification perfectly. They (Novell) have again proven their leadership within the computer industry by offering the only formal Internet certification in the hottest-growing market--the Internet."

"The Internet is becoming a way of doing your job and I couldn't imagine doing mine without it," said Certified Novell Instructor Raj Parikh. "Novell offers small, mid-size, and large companies the capability and security to grow their own intranets, as well as train and certify professionals to serve as web masters on the Internet. Novell is clearly the leader in this field."

Daniel Bickles, a Novell student pursuing the new certification, said the job market for Internet/intranet certification holds countless opportunities for professionals who "know the 'net." Bickles also stated this certification is very valuable for him with his interest in helping mid-size companies grow their business through the Internet.
