Novell Dominates Network VAR Magazine's "1996 Integrators' Choice Awards"

In a Survey of Resellers, NetWare 4.1 Wins "Overall Product of the Year"

OREM, Utah -- September 16, 1996 -- With top honors in eight different categories including "Overall Product of the Year," Novell, Inc. has dominated NetworkVAR magazine's 1996 Integrators' Choice Awards, it was announced today. The annual awards recognize the best hardware, software, services, and channel programs available to resellers in 1996, based on a survey of network resellers among Network VAR's readership.

Novell's NetWare 4.1 swept both network operating system (NOS) categories. As "Best Enterprise NOS," NetWare 4.1 was chosen "almost unanimously," according to the magazine. Novell's top-selling product was also named "Best Departmental NOS" in a closer race. These two awards led to NetWare's selection as "Overall Product of the Year."

The survey also honored Novell for "Best VAR Treatment from a Manufacturer" and "Best Training Program." Network VAR editor-in-chief Dave Brambert believes the the awards for NetWare are closely tied to the quality of Novell's service and support programs. "When you're talking about something essential like a network operating system," he said, "you really have to excel in these ancillary areas of training and customer service. As this year's awards demonstrate, our readers clearly believe Novell does."

Novell's ManageWise captured the top spot in the "Best Management Application" category. NetWare for SAA was named "Best Mainframe Connectivity Product" and LAN WorkPlace 5 was awarded "Best UNIX Connectivity Product."

NetworkVAR will hold its awards ceremony during Networld+Interop '96 on Wednesday, September 18, at 6:30pm at the Fado restaurant (3035 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta).

About the Products

NetWare 4.1 is the industry's leading NOS, providing businesses with a proven, reliable platform for network solutions. With more than 15 million users, NetWare 4.1 features Novell Directory Services (NDS) to help organize network resources, and thereby easing users' access to information and simplifying network administrators' management tasks. NDS has emerged as the de facto industry standard for distributed network directories.

ManageWise 2.1 is Novell's answer to today's network complexities. With ManageWise, network administrators can easily manage NetWare servers, analyze network traffic, conduct network inventory, remotely control desktops and prevent virus infiltration. ManageWise is priced per server in the same stratifications as NetWare, so managers of small networks can benefit without having to pay a large network price.

NetWare for SAA integrates IBM mainframe and AS/400 connectivity services with NetWare. Using NetWare for SAA, NetWare clients can access IBM host applications and data via standard NetWare protocols. Bundled, easy-to-use network management applications allow network administrators to extend NetWare security, administration, and management to IBM host resources. Over 100 partner products extend the functionality of NetWare for SAA.

LAN WorkPlace 5 is a connectivity package that provides Windows and DOS users with concurrent access to TCP/IP, Internet, and NetWare resources. Its full suite of WinSock applications give you terminal emulation with drag-and-drop keyboard remapping, graphical file transfer via File Transfer Protocol (FTP), and transparent Network File System file sharing. Also included is Netscape Navigator and a graphical dialer that makes it easy for you to dial in from remote locations over standard phone lines. Additionally, the X-Server application allows users to run remote X Windows applications directly from their PC.
