Novell's GroupWise Named as Upgrade Path for Futurus TEAM Combo
(Atlanta, Sept. 3, 1996) - Futurus Corporation and Novell, Inc. today announced that
Novell GroupWise is the upgrade path for the more than 500,000 Futurus TEAM Combo
customers. Under the terms of the agreement, Novell will offer TEAM customers upgrade pricing
to GroupWise as well as migration utilities to move Futurus TEAM mailboxes to the GroupWise
5 expanded E-mail and communication environment.
Effective immediately, Futurus Corp. will terminate all distribution and marketing of Futurus
Team, and
shall terminate support for the product by February 15, 1997.
Novell, Inc. will provide Futurus Team customers with upgrade pricing until February 15, 1998;
however, Futurus customers who purchase the upgrades from Futurus TEAM to GroupWise 4.1
between August 15, 1996 and 30 days after GroupWise 5 ships later this summer are eligible for
the free
upgrade to GroupWise 5. After GroupWise 5 ships, Futurus Team customers will be able to
purchase
GroupWise 5 at upgrade pricing.
"After careful consideration of all the possible options, we came to the inescapable conclusion
that
GroupWise and Novell provide our Futurus TEAM customers with the best possible upgrade
path," said
Robert Martinson, Futurus President and CEO. "GroupWise is the most compelling and logical
upgrade
path for our customers because it is an integrated E-mail, personal calendaring and group
scheduling
application that runs on multiple desktop environments* all features that TEAM users value. We
encourage our TEAM customers to move swiftly to take advantage of this opportunity."
Futurus TEAM, an MHS-native (Message Handling Service) E-mail, personal calendaring and
group
scheduling application which was first introduced in 1987, has the largest installed base of any
MHS-based groupware application. GroupWise 4.1, with more than 6.5 million customers
worldwide, is
Novell's expanded E-mail system which was the first in the industry to provide customers with a
Universal In Box. GroupWise 5 helps companies leverage their corporate network investments by
providing an instant collaborative solution for the corporate intranet. Building on its predecessor,
GroupWise 4.1, GroupWise 5 seamlessly integrates E-mail, calendaring/scheduling and task
management
with document management, shared folders, conferencing and workflow into a single Universal
Mail Box.
"Futurus customers will be upgrading to GroupWise at a time when Novell is leading an industry
paradigm shift by expanding E-mail to include features such as document management,
conferencing and
workflow," said Stewart Nelson, vice president and general manager, Novell GroupWare
Division. "We
are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for Futurus TEAM customers as they upgrade to
GroupWise."
