Novell to License Novell Cross-Platform Services to Caldera For Use
on Linux
Caldera's System Software Products to Include Novell Network
Services
OREM, Utah -- October 8, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today
announced Caldera, Inc. has licensed Novell network services for use
with Caldera's Linux-based system software environment, enabling
Caldera to provide complete networking solutions to Linux customers in
small to medium-sized businesses and enterprises. Licensing Novell
Cross-Platform Services technology from Novell will provide
Caldera customers with the industry-standard solutions they need to
access and manage the broadest range of network-based applications
and information within heterogeneous corporate/intranet environments
and the Internet.
Novell Cross-Platform Services will enable Caldera to expand and
enhance future releases of its operating system offerings. The Novell
Cross-Platform Services source code technology allows Caldera to add
Novell's state-of-the-art networking services, such as industry-standard
Novell Directory Services (NDS), file and print services and
security to its Linux-based system software products.
"The Internet and its associated technologies are expanding at an
unprecedented pace," said Richard Christiansen, Novell Cross-Platform
Services Product line manager for Novell. "This move allows our mutual
customers to benefit from the integration of innovative technologies
created and broadly tested by the Linux community with the
long-standing networking standards created by Novell."
These additions enable Caldera users to export NetWare file and print
services and plug into industry-leading Novell Directory Services using
Caldera products, allowing them to transparently access the network
resources available in Novell NetWare and IntranetWare environments.
"Our combined solution offers comprehensive Internet and intranet
capabilities for NetWare® and IntranetWare environments,"
said Bryan Sparks, president and CEO of Caldera, Inc. "The addition of
Novell Cross-Platform Services capabilities to Caldera's system software
allows Caldera products to better integrate with NetWare environments."
Caldera joins other Novell Cross-Platform Services licensees, including
Hewlett-Packard Company and The Santa Cruz Operation, to deliver
proven Novell network services on popular operating system platforms.
The company is in the process of porting Novell Cross-Platform Services
technologies to the Linux operating system and plans to include the
services in its products during 1997. These Caldera products will bring
Novell distributed network services to the rapidly expanding Linux
market.
Caldera designs, develops and markets to consumers and businesses a
