GroupWise 5 Named Best Groupware Product by VAR Business

VARs and Systems Integrators Choose GroupWise 5 Over Lotus Notes

OREM, Utah -- November 11, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that GroupWise 5, Novell's premier collaboration tool for intranets, has been selected by VAR Business as the winner of the 1996 Annual Report Card in the groupware category. The Annual Report Card surveys vendor-authorized resellers (VARs) and other VAR Business readers to determine which vendors best satisfy their product and business needs. In winning this prestigious award, Novell out-performed Lotus in providing VARs with superior product distribution and support, pre- and post-sales support, as well as channel management.

"With this award, our readers and the VAR community have indicated their belief that Novell is committed to providing the highest level of channel service and support to the groupware market," said Tom Farre, executive editor, VAR Business.

"VARs and end-users are migrating to GroupWise at a record pace," said Randall Bennett, president of R.W. Bennett Corp., a Novell Authorized Platinum Reseller. "The bottom line is that GroupWise works -- it's easy to understand and use; it encompasses multiple platforms; it's easy to install and manage; and Novell provides excellent support. Best of all, I can sell it now. It is very hard to sell a product based on promises for the future because you don't know if it will deliver, and therefore, as a reseller, you can't create a revenue stream. With GroupWise, I can deliver cost-effective business solutions to my customers today."

GroupWise 5 is an extended E-mail system that is the first in the industry to include full document and image management capabilities as part of a new Universal Mail Box. The Universal Mail Box gives users single-point access to personal calendaring, group scheduling, tasks, voice mail, faxes, documents, images and other message types both from the desktop and via the Internet using GroupWise WebAccess. GroupWise WebAccess allows users to access the Universal Mail Box from any HTML-compliant Internet browser.

"GroupWise 5 is a culmination of years of experience, development and cooperation with our customers and partners," said Ed McGarr, vice president of marketing, Novell GroupWare Division. "This award is a testament to Novell's commitment to providing increased product and sales support and education for the channel. We're pleased to see resellers recognizing our efforts and embracing GroupWise 5 as the collaboration tool for their customers."
