Novell and Vinca Partner on High-Availability Offering Novell's SFT III™ High-Availability Offering to be Complemented by Vinca's StandbyServer Las Vegas, COMDEX -- November 18, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. and Vinca today announced the formation of a strategic partnership to provide customers with better access to industry leading network and intranet fault-tolerant/high-availability solutions. Under the terms of the partnership, Vinca's StandbyServer will be available to IntranetWare, NetWare and SFT III customers through resellers and will be listed on the Novell Third-Party Price List. In later versions of IntranetWare, information on StandbyServer will be added to the installation program with an option for integrated installation should the customer choose to purchase StandbyServer. "The combined sales of Novell's SFT III and Vinca's StandbyServer represent more customers and more experience than any other high-availability solution on the market today," said Denice Gibson, senior vice president, Internet Products, Novell, Inc. "This partnership gives customers a choice of the industry-leading products available today to protect against expensive downtime or loss of access to valuable data. Companies can also perform regular server maintenance with maximum efficiency and without causing users inconvenience." Novell's SFT III and Vinca's StandbyServer provide solutions to meet diverse customer data protection needs. SFT III is the solution for companies using IntranetWare or NetWare running SFT III-certified NLMs, that need non-stop computing in case of a hardware failure. StandbyServer is designed for organizations that are running third-party NLMs that are not certified for SFT III. StandbyServer provides automatic recovery from both hardware and software failures, and does not require identical hardware. StandbyServer is also recommended for network computing environments using SMP, multiple NLMs, and/or businesses that need to use the secondary server for other network services such as printing, faxing or backup. Pricing and Availability Novell's SFT III Services for IntranetWare and NetWare 4.11 (1-100 users) is currently available for $1,495 MSRP. SFT III for 100+ users is available for $3,995.
