Novell's GroupWise Wins MVP Award Second Year Straight
PC Computing Chooses GroupWise over Lotus Notes and Qualcomm Eudora Pro as
Best E-mail and Collaboration Product
LAS VEGAS -- November 18, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that
GroupWise 5 has been selected by the editors of PC Computing as the winner of the
1996 Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award in the E-mail and Collaboration category.
GroupWise 5 out-performed all other products in terms of usability, innovation, technology, value
and performance in real-world business environments to win the prestigious MVP Award for the
second year in a row.
"We're proud to have GroupWise again recognized by industry leaders as the best E-mail and
group collaboration tool on the market," said Ed McGarr, vice president of marketing, Novell
GroupWare Division. "GroupWise 5 is intranet-ready, it's a fifth-generation product with a proven
track record, and it continues to offer capabilities such as full document management which no
other product in our category can match. This award, along with our seven million users, validates
the fact that GroupWise is the best expanded E-mail solution today."
"GroupWise 5 has proven to be an effective tool in streamlining our company's increasingly
complex messaging needs," said Michael Raab, network engineer of Helix Health, the largest
health-care delivery system in Maryland. "The Universal Mail Box, client/server functionality and
strong document management capabilities provide Helix Health employees with the simplicity and
power they need to communicate and share information effectively. In addition, when our doctors
are on the road, they have increased flexibility and expanded access to the information they need,
when they need it."
GroupWise 5 is the first and only client/server, cross-platform E-mail product to offer full
document management capabilities, as well as the new Universal Mail Box, which gives users
single-point access to incoming and outgoing messages, documents, shared folders, personal
calendaring, group scheduling, tasks, voice mail, faxes and other message types. Users can stay in
touch with the information in their Universal Mail Box via their desktop workstation, remote
connection through modem or wireless communications, any touchtone telephone, pager or any
