Novell Tools Simplify Upgrades to IntranetWare from Windows NT

Downloadable Tools Speed, Automate Migration

What:
Novell, Inc. today announced the release of new tools that make it fast and easy for customers to upgrade to IntranetWare™ from other network platforms, available now for download from Novell's World Wide Web site. Originally available as part of the BrainShare '96 Novell Consulting Toolkit, these tools make it simpler for customers to switch from Microsoft's NT Server, LAN Manager or LAN Server. These tools automate both client and server upgrades from other products to IntranetWare, a fully scalable, high-performance network solution that includes the industry-leading enterprise directory, Novell Directory Services (NDS).

The four new tools are:

  • LMIGRATE: Migrates existing domain objects, file system data and access rights from NT Server, LAN Manager and LAN Server to IntranetWare;
  • DOS/Windows and OS/2 Client Migration Tools: Replaces DOS/Windows and OS/2 client software with current versions of IntranetWare Client for DOS/Windows and IntranetWare Client for OS/2; and
  • Samba.nlm: Enables administrators to seamlessly switch client workstations to Novell services by emulating an NT Server, LAN Manager or LAN Server on an IntranetWare or NetWare 4 server.
The Novell Consulting Toolkit was designed to provide customers with a variety of tools and information to simplify migration, maintenance and administration of Novell products, including IntranetWare/NetWare™ 4.11, NetWare 4.1, ManageWise™, GroupWise™ and NetWare IP. The toolkit contains a variety of Novell and third-party software, product documentation, design and implementation strategies and troubleshooting techniques developed and field-tested by Novell's experienced consultants. Thousands of customers have downloaded these tools since their release in March, and tens of thousands of customers have received the migration tools as part of the Novell Consulting Toolkit CD.
