TRW Automotive Standardizes on Novell's GroupWise 5 Worldwide

GroupWise 5 to be Global Solution for 12,000 Users at TRW

OREM, Utah -- December 3, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that Cleveland-based TRW, Inc. will upgrade to GroupWise 5, Novell's premier intranet application, as its standard E-mail and collaboration system for its worldwide automotive business. TRW's automotive business segment is the company's largest and accounts for more than 70 percent of its employees. TRW's automotive business segment plans to implement 10,000 seats of GroupWise by the end of December and will expand to 12,000 seats by June 1997 in North America, Asia, Europe and South America. According to executives at TRW, the move is intended to boost the company's individual and group productivity, as well as enhance global competitiveness.

"GroupWise will allow TRW employees to easily access people, information and resources from anywhere in the world," said Peter Janak, vice president and chief information officer, TRW, Inc. "It is particularly valuable as a solution for us because users only need to know how to use E-mail in order to leverage the full range of functionality in GroupWise 5."

According to Stewart Nelson, vice president and general manager of Novell's GroupWare Division, TRW's adoption of GroupWise is a good indicator of the product's momentum in the marketplace.

"With a compounded annual growth rate of 75 percent and a current installed base of more than 7 million, GroupWise is the one of the fastest growing intranet solutions in the industry," Nelson said. "By selecting GroupWise 5 as its worldwide messaging and collaboration solution, TRW is demonstrating the kind of technological leadership that will distinguish the most successful companies in the new global economy."

GroupWise 5 is an extended E-mail system that is the first in the industry to include full document and image management capabilities as part of a new Universal Mail Box. The Universal Mail Box gives users single-point access to personal calendaring, group scheduling, tasks, voice mail, faxes, documents, images and other message types both from the desktop and via the Internet using GroupWise WebAccess. GroupWise WebAccess allows users to access the Universal Mail Box from any HTML-compliant Internet browser.
