Novell Incorporates DeveloperNet Track into BrainShare '97 -- Novell's Premier Technical
Conference
Novell to Provide Developers with Comprehensive Information on Creating Java-Based and Directory-Enabled Network Applications at Spring Conference
OREM, Utah -- January 21, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. today announced it will add a
comprehensive conference track for developers to its BrainShare '97 technical conference,
scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City, March 24 28. The new conference sessions build on
Novell® Developer Services' rapidly expanding DeveloperNet program to provide
software developers with the tools and knowledge they need to create next-generation network
application software: Java-based Internet/intranet and directory-enabled applications.
By integrating DeveloperNet information within BrainShare '97, Novell will reach a broader range
of developers including Java developers, corporate developers, consultants, independent hardware
vendors (IHVs), independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators and vertical market
developers. The DeveloperNet track will also offer code-break sessions for the first time at
BrainShare, offering developers a hands-on opportunity to explore and develop
sample code alongside Novell experts. In addition, BrainShare '97 will include keynote speeches
from Novell executives and other industry leaders including Java visionary, James Gosling of
JavaSoft, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
The DeveloperNet track provides in-depth, technical sessions that developers require to build
applications and hardware solutions leveraging Novell's advanced networking services including
Novell Directory Services (NDS). Novell network services add information access
and management capabilities to products and improve end users' abilities to take advantage of
network-based information and resources. Novell is also the only vendor that allows developers to
exploit a comprehensive set of network services extending across all major client/server platforms.
"DeveloperNet's comprehensive set of tools and information allows Novell's more than 7,000
software and hardware developers to build compelling applications for their markets," said Gary
Mueller, vice president of Novell Developer Services. "The DeveloperNet track at BrainShare will
provide developers with the skills to create Java-based applications, accessing Novell's
networking services, including NDS, in a heterogeneous environment."
DeveloperNet sessions will highlight the Novell DeveloperNet 2000 initiative that gives
developers the flexibility to build business intranets by using the development tools of their choice.
Through DeveloperNet 2000, Novell is making its network services accessible to developers
using Java, Scripting, RAD Components and C. The DeveloperNet track at BrainShare '97
features sessions on how developers can leverage network services in applications for Novell's
core product categories: IntranetWare, GroupWise and ManageWise. The
track focuses on such topics as directory-enabled applications; comparisons of several network
directory-access application programming interfaces (APIs) including NDS, LDAP, X.500, ODSI,
HTTP, MAPI; an NDS architecture overview; enabling existing applications to operate on the
Internet and much more.
Developers interested in object-oriented programming and Visual Basic can also take advantage
of sessions designed to address development techniques within these environments. A complete
listing of all BrainShare '97 sessions is now available on the World Wide Web at http://brainshare.novell.com/97/sessionslist.html.
