Novell Makes Networking Easier And More Affordable For Small Businesses
IntranetWare for Small Business Features User-Based Pricing, Ease of Installation and
Administration to Help Small Businesses Grow
Orem, UTAH -- January 21, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. today announced
IntranetWare for Small Business, with new user-based licensing that will reduce the cost
of growing a small business. IntranetWare for Small Business is the new network environment
designed specifically for small businesses and scheduled to be available through Novell's
worldwide sales channel on February 14, 1997.
The new pricing system allows IntranetWare for Small Business customers to buy the product in
small increments and add individual users as their networks and businesses grow. IntranetWare
for Small Business, formerly code-named "Kayak," delivers a network environment optimized for
small businesses with 25 or fewer users, offering fast and simple installation and easy
administration and management. IntranetWare for Small Business list price is $895 for a server
plus a five-user license. The list price for a one-user add-on license is $65. Novell is also offering
special upgrade pricing for users of both Novell and non-Novell operating systems. Upgrade
pricing is $495 for a server plus a five-user upgrade and $795 for a ten-user upgrade. Discounts
may be given through the reseller channel.
"IntranetWare for Small Business offers us the price, performance and administrative ease we
need to cost-effectively run our small network," said Lois Ross, bookkeeper and administrative
assistant for Island Scientific and Rich Passage Winery. "I can add one user at a time at a very
affordable price, so we pay for exactly what we need. IntranetWare for Small Business is
extremely user-friendly and basically runs itself, which is crucial since network administration is
not my primary job. Novell has really considered the needs of small businesses like ours and
delivered a great solution."
"As a reseller, I see IntranetWare for Small Business as a solution specifically designed and priced
for the majority of our customers who have between five and ten users," said Bill Krause, the
owner of Special T Software. "The bundling of network capabilities with other features appeals to
our customers because they know they are getting everything they need in one product, at an
affordable price. In addition, the remote management capabilities of IntranetWare for Small
Business represent a terrific opportunity for Novell resellers to provide valuable network services
to customers."
Simple Installation and Migration
IntranetWare for Small Business provides the network services small businesses need to
share information resources efficiently and communicate effectively both within their
organizations and across the Internet. IntranetWare for Small Business includes software
installation, network management and administration capabilities designed specifically to meet the
needs of small businesses.
The coach-based Novell Easy Administration Tool (NEAT) feature enables easy network
operations by providing a simple interface for creating, deleting and modifying users, groups,
applications and printers on the network.
The IntranetWare for Small Business Single-Site directory provides customers with all the
information management and access capabilities of the industry standard, Novell Directory
Services (NDS). NDS provides a single point of access and management,
increasing user productivity and reducing network administration costs. On-line documentation in
HTML format allows IntranetWare for Small Business customers to obtain documentation
updates and other current information from Novell's World Wide Web site.
Easy Communication, Collaboration and Remote Management
IntranetWare for Small Business, designed for businesses that want all the networking benefits
with a minimum of overhead, includes:
- Novell's NetWare Connect, which enables remote access, also provides small
businesses with modem pooling so users can share modem hardware and phone lines to obtain
significant cost savings
- Management tools based on Novell ManageWise, an end-to-end network management
solution, to provide easy remote management for customers; resellers can now dial into small
business networks, implement ManageWise and provide network management, enabling
customers to focus on their core business
- Novell's Web Server 2.5 and Netscape Navigator 3.0 for access to intranet and
Internet resources
- GroupWise 5 compatibility so customers can easily leverage Novell's client/server e-mail
system that integrates e-mail, calendaring/scheduling and task management with document
management and workflow into a single Universal Mail Box
"IntranetWare for Small Business is Novell's response to the traditional 'one-size-fits-all' approach
to networking," said Denice Gibson, executive vice president of Novell's Internet Access Division.
"The ease of installation coupled with excellent remote management and diagnostic capabilities
enable the small business owner to have a powerful, fully functioning network without having a
full-time expert on staff. This product empowers people with little technology experience to reap
the benefits of networking, something businesses of all sizes can use."
