Novell Helps Put Provo Transportation Project Back on Track
$6 Million Loan to Improve Freeway Interchange
OREM, Utah -- January 31, 1997 -- With a $6 million loan to the city of
Provo, Novell, Inc. has helped save a project to improve a major freeway interchange. Now,
construction of a new freeway exit from I-15 at University Avenue will begin this year rather than
suffer more delays.
The interchange serves thousands of employees at Provo's East Bay Business Centre, which
includes Novell's six-building campus as well as dozens of other businesses. In addition, a new
shopping mall is planned for the area.
Mayor George O. Stewart of Provo called this partnership the first of its kind in the state. "Provo
City and the state of Utah have aggressively pursued funding for much-needed improvements to
the I-15/University Avenue connector for many years," said the Mayor. "While we have had
considerable success, we were far from having the necessary funding to begin construction.
Thanks to Novell and this unique partnership, we will be able to proceed with construction almost
immediately, thereby improving safety and flow of traffic for the benefit of our residents and
others from throughout the county. We are fortunate to have a corporation like Novell in our
community."
"When we learned about the financing situation," said Darcy Mott, vice president and treasurer of
Novell, "we knew we had to do whatever we could to accelerate the timetable for the
interchange. Novell is proud to join the city and state as partners to make this project happen."
