Novell to Rock the Net at BrainShare '97
Labs, Sessions, and Keynotes Will Focus on Software to Connect the
Enterprise
OREM, Utah -- February 10, 1997 -- In less than two months, networking
professionals from around the world will learn new ways to tap the power of Internet, intranet,
and collaborative computing at the largest technical and business conference focused exclusively
on networking software. Novell's 13th annual BrainShare conference, which hits Salt Lake City,
Utah, from March 24 through March 28, 1997, features technical sessions, keynote addresses,
face-to-face Q&A sessions, and a Technology Lab where attendees can experiment with the latest
networking technology for connecting the enterprise. Illustrating Novell's commitment to helping
companies evolve their networks to full-service intranets, the theme of BrainShare '97 is "Rock
the Net."
"The Internet has rocked the world of business," said Novell president Joe Marengi, who will give
the conference's welcoming address. "Now businesses have the power to rock back. Novell
products bring structure to the Internet to make it a serious business tool. That's what BrainShare
'97 is all about."
BrainShare Events
With approximately 5,000 system integrators, network managers, educators, developers,
consultants, VARs, media, and other networking professionals expected to attend the conference,
BrainShare has become the industry's indispensable event for information on networking software.
Over the five-day span, BrainShare will offer more than 200 technical sessions c overing Novell's
four core product lines: IntranetWare, GroupWise, ManageWise, and Directory Services. The
BrainShare curriculum also includes a number of Network Services sessions designed to exploit
Novell's commitment to open computing environments.
Certified Novell support professionals -- CNIs, CNEs, and Master CNEs -- will find sessions and
tracks created specifically for them. These sessions provide important advantages to attendees by
exploring new business solutions, IS strategies, Internet/intranet computing, security issues, and
more.
One of the most significant changes to the BrainShare lineup in 1997 is the addition of the
DeveloperNet track for software developers to learn how to build the next generation of
networked applications using Java, C++, and other programming languages.
Developers will benefit further from the keynote address given by JavaSoft chief scientist James
Gosling, entitled "Java and the Enterprise: Past, Present, and Future." In other keynotes, Novell's
chief technology officer Dr. Glenn Ricart will present the company's technology strategy for 1997
and beyond; Denice Gibson, senior vice president of Internet products, will unveil Novell's
product roadmap; Vic Langford, senior vice president of Internet strategies, will discuss exciting
new technologies from Novell that enable customers to maximize network resources; and Novell
chief scientist Drew Major will present Novell's vision for IntranetWare including intranet-to-
Internet border services and next-generation distributed computing using Java and CORBA.
BrainShare Technology Lab
Another new addition to BrainShare is the Technology Lab, where users can witness and interact
with new networking products in action. "It's the best way for people to see how Novell and
third-party solutions are working together to solve the business problems of today and to redefine
the network of tomorrow," said Mardi Garren, Novell's senior vice president of corporate
communications.
In the evenings, social events and a special Meet the Experts reception will entertain show
attendees, who will be able to meet directly with the engineers and developers who are designing
next-generation networking products.
"BrainShare offers something for everyone," said Garren. "We've gathered together some of the
brightest minds in networking, all in one place. Anyone involved in networking, no matter the size
or type of their business, will leave the conference with the knowledge and skills to make the most
out of their network investment."
