Novell Enhances File and Resource Sharing in Mixed IntranetWare and UNIX Environments
IntranetWare NFS Services 2.12 and IntranetWare Print Services 2.12 Deliver Seamless
Connectivity to IntranetWare and UNIX Users
OREM, Utah -- February 20, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. today announced the immediate
availability of IntranetWare NFS Services 2.12, an enhanced networking product for Novell's IntranetWare
and NetWare 4.11 servers that simplifies information sharing and strengthens connectivity between UNIX
and Novell network environments. With this upgrade, IntranetWare and UNIX users can transparently
share files between IntranetWare, Novell's full-service Internet/intranet platform, and any operating system
supporting the NFS (Network File System) protocol.
Also available with this release is IntranetWare Print Services 2.12 for UNIX, which enables users to
easily print documents regardless of whether the files reside on a UNIX or IntranetWare server.
These two products continue Novell's overall strategy to connect and manage the broadest range of
systems. "Customers operate heterogeneous networking environments because they want to be able to
leverage the strengths of the different platforms," said Willy Donahoo, senior director of marketing for
Novell's Internet Products Group. "With this and other products, Novell is making it easier for different
servers--whether IntranetWare, UNIX, or Windows NT--to coexist on one network."
Centralized Installation and Administration
Centralized software installation is an integral feature of IntranetWare NFS Services 2.12. An
administrator installs and configures software only on an IntranetWare server, eliminating the need to
install the new software on every PC for an NFS client to share and access to data stored in UNIX systems.
Further simplifying the job of a network administrator, this software provides a single point of
administration for management of users through Novell Directory Services (NDS). The administrator, with
the assistance of NDS, controls access to files in the combined UNIX and IntranetWare environments.
Security is greatly enhanced when an administrator is able to control and manage access to IntranetWare
and NFS files even when the files reside on a non-IntranetWare system. The recognized strength of
IntranetWare security is an aid in managing the data flow between UNIX and IntranetWare networks.
Pricing and Availability
IntranetWare NFS Services 2.12 is available from authorized Novell resellers. Pricing for this software is
$2995 per server license. Also available as a companion product is IntranetWare Print Services 2.12 for
UNIX at $995 per server. For those customers who already have NetWare NFS Services 2.1 and wish to
upgrade, the pricing is $400 to move to IntranetWare NFS Services 2.12 and $200 to upgrade to
IntranetWare Print Services 2.12 for UNIX.
