Novell's IntranetWare For Small Business Receives Early Endorsement From Europe's Leading PC Manufacturers

February 7, 1997 -- Novell announced today that Europe's leading PC manufacturers are promoting Novell's IntranetWare for Small Business on their powerful entry level PC servers. Supporters of Novell's new solution for the small business sector include Compaq, Dell, Elonex, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Mitsubishi, Olivetti Personal Computers, Siemens Nixdorf, Tulip and Viglen, SAGE and KHK.

Novell's IntranetWare for Small Business product represents a new network environment designed specifically for growing smaller businesses - for 25 users or less. It features user based pricing and easy installation and administration to allow the addition of individual users as the business grows. Novell announced last week that the product, formerly code named 'Kayak', will be available through Novell's OEM sales channels and Novell's world-wide sales channel from 14 February 1997.

Bryn Jenkins, director of OEM sales at Novell in Europe comments: "There are over 5 million small and medium sized businesses across Europe, and until now their networking needs have not been adequately addressed. With IntranetWare for Small Business, Novell intends to bring local area networking technology, and subsequent gains in both productivity and competitiveness, to this sector of the business community.

"That Europe's leading PC manufacturers have demonstrated their support and eagerness to work with Novell to produce specific server bundles, is testament.to the strength of this product. This co-operation will enable Novell to present best-of-breed solutions to a marketplace that has, from a networking perspective, largely been ignored until now."

Other features of the product that make it particularly appealing to small businesses, include remote access, access to the World Wide Web, e-mail facilities and an easily administered network:

  • Novell Easy Administration Tool (NEAT) provides a simple and easily accessible interface for creating, deleting and modifying users, groups, applications and printers on the network
  • the IntranetWare for Small Business Single-Site directory provides a single point of access and management for the systems thus increasing user productivity and reducing network administration costs
  • on-line documentation in HTML format allows users to obtain documentation updates and other current information from Novell's World Wide Web site
  • Novell's NetWare Connect enables remote access and also allows users to pool modem hardware and phone lines and so obtain significant cost savings
  • management tools based on Novell ManageWise, an end-to-end network management solution, provide easy remote management for customers
  • Novell's Web Server 2.5 and Netscape Navigator 3.0 provide access to Intranet and Internet resources
  • GroupWise 5 compatibility allows customers to leverage Novell's client/server e-mail system that integrates e-mail, calendaring/scheduling and task management with document management and workflow into a single Universal Mail Box
The IntranetWare for Small Business list price is $895 for a server plus a five-user license. The list price for a one-user add-on license is $65. Prices and discounts may be given through the OEM channel.
