Novell Intranet Solution Adds to Guest Amenities at Sundance Mountain Resort
Sundance Resort Intranet Connects Resort Guests With Critical Conference Information and
Provides Access to the Internet
OREM, Utah -- March 18, 1997 -- The Sundance resort, which provides high-powered
executives with low-key retreat atmosphere, added an intranet to its list of guest amenities at a Goldman
Sachs conference held there last week. The intranet, based on Novell IntranetWare and Oracle7
Server, enabled the more than 100 CEOs and institutional investors in attendance to access the Internet to
retrieve electronic stock quotes and E-mail messages quickly and easily while relaxing in the rustic resort in
the North Fork of Provo Canyon in Utah.
"We were extremely impressed with the conference intranet," said Mary Henry, managing director,
Goldman Sachs. "Providing our investors and technology company executives with easy access to both
stock prices and resort activities improved the retreat tremendously."
"While we want our guests to enjoy the experience of getting away from it all, we find many can't separate
themselves from the need for a constant flow of information," said Eric Van Blarcum, manager of
information services, Sundance. "This intranet, built specifically for Sundance and Goldman Sachs by
Novell, provided guests with the information they needed regarding daily resort and conference activities as
well as access to the Internet where they could quickly check their favorite stocks."
Novell Intranet Connects Guests to Business Information
The Novell intranet provided conference attendees with hot links to information such as the conference
schedule, current stock quotes and cool links to attendee corporate World Wide Web sites through AT&T's
WorldNet Intranet Connect Service. This data was accessible to guests from laptop computers scattered
throughout the resort at locations such as the Owl Bar, the Foundry Grill, the Screening Room and the
Conference Retreat Center. Sundance, an environmentally conscious resort, that keeps paper waste to a
minimum, also saved a few trees as the intranet electronic message board replaced the traditional cork
bulletin board seen outside the conference center.
Guests Use Novell Intranet to Plan Free Time
In addition to accessing business information, guests also had the opportunity to take advantage of resort
activities while not in conference sessions. Regardless of their location or the time of day, guests were able
to easily schedule and confirm participation in activities by using one of the laptop computers located
conveniently throughout the center. While giving the guest the freedom to browse and book activities with
the click of a mouse, the intranet also allowed the resort concierge to focus on some of the more
complicated and critical tasks of meeting guest's needs.
"We are thrilled about our partnership with Novell," said Matt Bailey, vice president and general manager
of Sundance. "This intranet amenity has enormous benefits for both the resort and guests. Its potential is
limitless."
