Novell Offers Education Solution for Integrating IntranetWare and Windows NT

Networking Leader Introduces Course Designed to Give CNEs and IT Professionals the Resources They Need to Integrate in Today's Heterogeneous Environments

OREM, Utah -- April 2, 1997 -- For those Certified Novell Engineers (CNEs) and information technology (IT) professionals charged with integrating the diverse systems in their workplaces, Novell is introducing 555 IntranetWare: Integrating Windows NT, a three-day course that teaches how to efficiently and effectively integrate IntranetWare/NetWare servers with Windows NT.

This course focuses on integration of different platforms within real-world environments. The ability to integrate diverse systems is especially pertinent when you consider that, according to a March 1997 survey, 67.2% of the networking professionals working with an NT server are integrating NT as an application server in a Novell-server environment (Novell Certifications: Dare to Compare, March 1997).

"The world is heterogeneous, filled with environments that are integrated with many products, platforms and systems working together for optimal performance," said Bob Puissant, vice president of skills development for Novell Education. Puissant also noted that Novell's IntranetWare: Integrating Windows NT course is part of the Client/Network Solutions track of the Master CNE program. "This course and Novell's Master CNE program focuses on integration. Conversely, Microsoft's NT courses and certifications are solely product-oriented, vendor-specific training narrowly focusing on migration not integration."

"Before taking Novell's IntranetWare: Integrating Windows NT course I had a superficial understanding of NT. Now I approach integrating the two systems with confidence," said Elisabeth Bedgood, CNE and network consultant for Virginia-based Government Micro Resources, Inc. "I chose Novell training over Microsoft's because I knew the information would be communicated in the mainstream networking language I understand, instead of the unfamiliar NT terminology."

Chuck Straughn, Jr., CNE and network consultant in Lakeland, Florida, also attended the Novell's IntranetWare: Integrating Windows NT course and says, "Why should I go to Microsoft for NT training when Novell does NT training so much better?"

"Novell is the first and only vendor to offer training to actually integrate these two environments and improve a network's performance and cost-effectiveness at the same time," said Puissant. "Novell provides solutions that actually enhance the Windows NT environment from both a manageability and usability perspective. In essence, Novell makes NT better."

Specific Skills, Knowledge To Be Gained

Student customers will get hands-on experience setting up and configuring the Novell IntranetWare client for Windows NT workstation and server. "CNEs will learn how to streamline the integration of industry- standard NDS with a Windows NT environment, thus minimizing costly NT server administration expenses in an enterprise-wide environment." said Puissant. Students will also learn how to use Novell's NT Application Server Manager to administer NT from IntranetWare Administrator.

After completing the course and associated certification exam for 555 IntranetWare: Integrating Windows NT, CNEs and IT professionals will have gained the knowledge to be able to use NDS as a single source for managing NT workstations, servers and applications. Specifically, student customers will be able to:

  • Synchronize Windows NT user and group accounts to NDS
  • Use Windows NT tools and utilities
  • Install and update the IntranetWare Client for Windows NT
  • Manage a multiple-domain NT network by establishing trust relationships
  • Install and configure the Novell Administrator for Windows NT
The course is available through Novell's 1,450 Authorized Education Centers (NAECs) and Novell Education Academic Partners worldwide.
