New Novell Training and Certifications Prepare Individuals and Businesses to Unleash the Power of
the Internet
Novell "Rocks the Net" with New IntranetWare Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) and Novell
Certified Internet Professional Certifications and Authorized Training
PROVO, Utah, -- April 9, 1997 -- Novell, the company that invented information
technology certification, announced today two additional certification and training programs to extend its
market leadership in Internet/intranet education. The addition of the IntranetWare CNE and the Web
Designer track of the Novell Certified Internet Professional continues Novell's unmatched charge to train
individuals to unleash the power of the Internet/intranet--or "Rock the Net"--for their businesses and for
themselves.
"Solutions are more than just products. Our customers are demanding quality, industry-relevant training to
be able to harness the value of the Internet," said Joe Marengi, president and chief operating officer, Novell,
Inc. "Novell has worked in 'Internet time' to be the only vendor to deliver these comprehensive training and
certification programs to the market."
"It's a given that no other company can offer Novell's holistic understanding of Internet/intranet training
and certification," he added. "The fact that these programs are available right now positions these
programs as de facto standards for delivering Internet skills and knowledge to global businesses."
"Our new Novell Certified Internet Professional certification addresses those who use the Internet as an
application, while the IntranetWare CNE and Master CNE certifications provide information to those
responsible for the nuts and bolts of the infrastructure," said Gary Clark, director of skills assessment for
Novell Education.
Rocking the Net
IntranetWare CNE and Master CNE
Novell's IntranetWare platform continues the evolution of NetWare to a full-service Internet and intranet
access platform for businesses of all sizes. By completing the IntranetWare CNE track, CNEs will gain the
requisite knowledge and skills needed to successfully add networking capabilities to their organizations'
networks.
To earn the IntranetWare certification, existing CNEs need to pass the single exam associated with the
540 Building Intranets with IntranetWare course. The two-day, hands-on course teaches
experienced NetWare service providers how to implement the Web services components of IntranetWare.
The course focuses on planning, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Internet and intranet networks
and additionally qualifies as an elective for the Master CNE certification.
"I attended the Building Intranets with IntranetWare course to learn about the powerful utilities
included in IntranetWare," said Fred Glauser, CNE and Salt Lake City, Utah-based consultant. "My mobile
and telecommuter customers need to have remote access to resources on their company network and the
Internet. This class showed me how to use the IntranetWare tools to implement those types of Internet and
intranet connections."
Existing CNEs who wish to further their Internet/intranet skills can earn the Internet/intranet Solutions
specialization within the Master CNE program. This specialization is targeted to system engineers,
consultants and others responsible for the implementation of the IP infrastructure to support the Internet.
One Master CNE said that 100 percent of the businesses he consults with want to embrace the Internet.
"The background of the Master CNE gives me the skills needed to set up and help drive that technology for
my clients," said John Dietle, vice president of Connecticut Computer Service Inc. in Plantsville, Conn.

The Novell Certified Internet Professional
In addition to the technical CNE and Master CNE solutions for the Internet/intranet, Novell is announcing
an extension of its education thrust into the areas of "Webmastering." "Our extensive research revealed that
60 percent of Internet professionals come from marketing or non-technical backgrounds and publishing on
the World Wide Web has become an extension of their existing job responsibilities," said Novell's Clark.
The Web Designer, the new specialization within the Novell Certified Internet Professional certification, is
designed to prepare and certify those individuals commonly referred to as 'Webmasters' to design
web sites. "The Web is becoming an extension of traditional publishing functions," said Novell's Clark,
whose team is leading Novell's Internet certification strategy. "This certification is designed for individuals
tasked with designing a company's Internet presence on the Web." Individuals who participate in the Web
Designer program will learn how to increase the effectiveness of Web communication, effectively market
on the Web, and create exciting, action-producing user interfaces.
In addition to exciting new courses and certifications, Novell continues to "Rock the Net" with free
informative seminars and special promotions.
