Novell Wins Awards in Six Major Product Categories at Networld + Interop

Network World, Network Computing, and Network Magazine Give Novell Top Honors at Industry Tradeshow

Networld + Interop, Las Vegas -- May 8, 1997 -- Adding to its growing list of honors, Novell, Inc. won six new product awards from top industry publications Network World, Network Magazine, and Network Computing.

In Network Computing's third annual "Well-Connected Awards," Novell captured top honors in three categories. For the second year in a row, IntranetWare was selected in the Network Operating System category, topping other solutions from Microsoft and Sun. In the category of Client/Server Messaging, the editors selected Novell's GroupWise 5, saying that it provides "critical tools, such as messaging, discussion groups, scheduling action items, and document management, in a cohesive and intuitive user work space." And Novell Directory Services, the industry's most popular directory with more than 20 million users, captured the Well-Connected Award in the Directory category. Network Computing wrote, "No other product even comes close to NDS's functionality."

As part of its Intranet Excellence Awards, which honor "innovation and foresight in developing an outstanding solution for today's intranets," Network World gave IntranetWare the award in the Intranet Web Server category.

Network Magazine bestowed Product of the Year Awards to both IntranetWare in the Server Operating System category and Novell's ManageWise 2.1 in the Systems Management category. Explaining the awards in its May issue, Network praised IntranetWare for including an "eminently practical set of Internet-oriented capabilities," such as NDS, a Web server, Java support, and other functionality on top of its server operating system. And the editors wrote that ManageWise 2.1 won because of new features that "extend its enterprise capabilities and the openness of the platform -- two very valuable achievements in the context of today's networks."

These latest honors underscore Novell's dominance in the networking software industry. In 1996, Novell captured 14 product awards for its IntranetWare product line alone, including two Product of the Year awards from InfoWorld and an Editor's Choice from BYTE Magazine. In addition, Novell's IntranetWare/NetWare network platform outsold all other server operating systems last year, according to final sales figures from International Data Corporation. And a Computerworld survey of network managers ranked Novell's IntranetWare and GroupWise highest in customer satisfaction.

Founded in 1983, Novell (NASDAQ: NOVL) is the world's leading provider of network software.
