Novell Announces Officer Resignation

PROVO, Utah -- June 6, 1997 -- Novell, Inc.today announced the resignation of Joseph A. Marengi, president and chief operating officer effective at the end of June 1997.

Marengi served as president since September 1996, while the company conducted a search for a new chairman and chief executive officer. He formerly was executive vice president worldwide sales, a position he assumed in 1992. Before that he held channel management and sales executive positions. He joined Novell in 1989.

"During more than seven years of service to the company, Joe was a tremendous performer who made significant contributions to the growth of Novell as a networking leader. After being promoted to run the company, Joe did the right thing in advancing the concept of 'one Novell' that pulled the organization together around a single networking vision. We wish him well in his future endeavors," said Dr. Eric Schmidt, Novell chairman and chief executive officer.

Novell announced on May 28 that it is realigning its business model to bring it in line with the realities of the marketplace. The company is implementing its strategy to become the leading Internet / intranet software provider. Through the end of this month, Marengi will continue to help the company carry out these changes. After his departure, Schmidt will temporarily assume the responsibilities of president.
