Novell and GroupWise Earn Top Vendor Satisfaction Rating in Messaging and
Collaborative
Computing Study
GroupWise Maintains High Ratings in Creative Networks Market Report Covering Lotus,
Microsoft, Novell Products
PROVO, Utah -- July 8, 1997 -- Results from a new, independent Creative
Networks
survey of businesses using collaborative and messaging software show Novell, Inc. and
GroupWise rated
number one in overall customer satisfaction with the vendor. In this category, Novell topped the
other two
leading collaborative solutions--Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. Novell also ranked first in
customer
assessment of key vendor attributes such as pricing, licensing, and product quality issues.
When asked about their overall satisfaction customers gave Novell higher marks than Microsoft
or Lotus.
"They gave very high ratings for the quality and availability of technical support and find high
value in
Novell's Web-based support. Novell customers also rate the overall quality of the system quite
highly." said
Nina Burns, Creative Networks president and CEO.
Creative Networks interviewed Information Technology managers deploying collaborative
software at 124
large and mid-size organizations averaging 16,000 or more users. Results of the survey are
detailed in a
new Creative Networks Collaborative Computing Market Report titled Customer Satisfaction:
Messaging and Collaborative Computing.
Three Times the Installed Base of Microsoft Exchange
Millions of businesses are now using collaborative and messaging software to send E-Mail
messages, share
calendars and schedules, and perform other group tasks made possible by the rapid growth of
computer
networks. Novell, the world's largest company focused exclusively on network software, has
leveraged its
networking expertise to build an installed base of over 8 million GroupWise users--three times the
installed
base of Microsoft Exchange. GroupWise also outranked Exchange and Lotus Notes in the
Computerworld Q4 96 Mindshare report, with Novell named "current primary vendor"
among the
highest percentage of more than 100 participating large businesses.
The Creative Networks survey emphasized that Novell's GroupWise, Lotus Notes, and Microsoft
Exchange
represent different kinds of collaborative solutions. GroupWise was judged the only "collaborative
product
suite" consisting of an integrated set of collaborative applications. This instant collaborative
solution for
corporate intranets contrasts with Lotus Notes, described by Creative Networks as a
"collaborative
computing environment" and Microsoft Exchange, a messaging system that does not include a
suite of
applications. GroupWise 5.1, Novell's latest release, seamlessly integrates E-Mail,
calendaring/scheduling,
task management, shared folders, threaded conferencing, workflow, fax and voice messaging,
remote and
Internet access into a Universal Mail Box. In addition, GroupWise Web Access provides access to
this
Universal Mail Box over the Internet via any Web browser.
GroupWise 5.1 is also designed to leverage single-point administration provided by Novell
Directory
Services (NDS), Novell's industry-leading LDAP-enabled directory for corporate intranets and the
Internet.
GroupWise 5.1 allows network administrators the ability to centrally and hierarchically manage
users,
groups, network devices and applications. As a result, it dramatically reduces administration costs
by
eliminating redundant network/messaging system maintenance and administration. Users benefit
by easily
locating and using network devices, applications and files in a distributed network environment.
