Advertising agency implements GroupWise around its worldwide network
PROVO, Utah -- July 16, 1997 -- Saatchi& Saatchi, the most famous advertising
agency in the world, is implementing GroupWise and IntranetWare in its main European offices as part of
a worldwide roll-out of the product. The project is part of a standardization of communication software
designed to improve group-wide communication and business practices. Saatchi& Saatchi selected
GroupWise after a three-way review of GroupWise, Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange.
"In our drive to standardize and improve work processes and technology throughout Saatchi& Saatchi, we
were looking for one product that would provide us with superior out of the box functionality, quality
document management and easy access to the World Wide Web," said Andrew Halstead, European IT
director for Saatchi& Saatchi. "Following a detailed review of the major products, and also in the light of
successful two years' use in the US, we concluded that GroupWise was the only product that could deliver
everything we were looking for."
Before the review, Saatchi& Saatchi in Europe was using a number of e-mail packages, primarily for
internal office communication. Towards the end of 1996 the company decided to standardize on one e-mail
system and implement further applications.
"In addition to cost-effective inter-company communication for our 2,000 European users, we were looking
for a package that could achieve an integration of diary and scheduling tasks, document management, and
remote Web access," added Halstead. "With these features and the future promise of workflow and
imaging, we decided that GroupWise would offer a great way of integrating and improving efficiency."
The roll-out will result in 15 major European offices using GroupWise by the end of 1997, with the rest
following in 1998.
For the last 18 months, Saatchi& Saatchi has been sharing information on draft campaign material with
clients by means of an extranet. It intends to use Novell's IntranetWare to improve and develop this service.
"IntranetWare will assist us in our desire to further develop client relationships into partnerships using
intranets and extranets," said Halstead.
Commenting on the benefits that he expects GroupWise to bring, Halstead added, "GroupWise will enable
us to work more efficiently and help facilitate better communication across our global network."
