Novell's BorderManager Boot Camp Sparks Strong Channel Demand

Channel Prepares to Meet Urgent Customer Need for Simple, Secure Internet Border Management

PROVO, UT -- August 11, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. announced today that more than 600 of Novell's strategic partners -- double the expected number of registrants -- will participate in the company's BorderManager Boot Camp, to be held August 11 - 21 at Novell's Orem, Utah campus. The boot camp offers two days of intensive training for resellers on Novell® BorderManager, the industry's first integrated family of directory-based network services that centrally manages user access privileges and security between corporate intranets and the Internet. The product will ship later this summer.

"Novell's training strategy for BorderManager is a bold move that should help spur success in rolling out the product,"said Don Lyons, group vice president, Category Strategy for MicroAge, a global technology services provider, which distributes Novell products to more than 20,000 resellers nationwide. "Providing focused training for channel partners and Platinum Resellers will give them the tools they need to market and sell the product to customers before the product actually hits the streets."

Attendees will include Certified Novell Engineers (CNEs) from Novell's Platinum and Corporate Resellers, Distribution Partners, OEMs and Enterprise Consulting Partners.

"This strong response to BorderManager Boot Camp reflects a critical need among our channel partners to help their customers manage the space between private networks and the Internet,"said Michelle Arden, vice president of Novell's Border Services Group. "BorderManager is the only product that offers all the integrated network services businesses need for management, security and performance."

Hands-on Training Will Help Resellers Better Serve Internet Customers

The Boot Camp Sessions will include tutorials on product features and benefits and hands-on exposure to BorderManager in a networked training environment. The BorderManager Boot Camp is Novell's first step in a series of focused channel marketing opportunities designed to maximize its channel partners sales opportunities while enhancing its Internet skills.

"This is a great example of why Novell is the best channel partner in the industry," said Bill Towey, president of Powerscourt, a Platinum Partner in Tacoma, WA. "Early access to the highest quality training will take us directly to the center of the hottest market opportunity imaginable and help us meet our customers' urgent needs to incorporate the Internet into their businesses easily and securely."

"Novell is focused on better serving our customers," said Bill Wall, Novell manager of channel marketing, development and programs. "We see the opportunity for BorderManager and the strength of our channel -- the combination is a clear winner."

After completing the August training sessions, Novell will take BorderManager Boot Camp on the road to additional partners and resellers.

In addition to BorderManager training, Boot Camp participants will receive briefings on the following products:
