Novell and Simware Make It Easier and More Cost-Effective to Upgrade Novell Network
Platforms
Partnership Provides Customers with Free Utility to Ease Migration from NetWare 3.x to
IntranetWare
PROVO, Utah -- September 2, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. and Simware, Inc. today announced
a partnership that will provide Novell NetWare® 3.x customers with the latest version of Simware's
REXXWARE Migration Tool (RMT), free of charge, to help them upgrade to Novell's award-
winning networking platform, IntranetWare. Using RMT, a comprehensive, leading-edge migration
utility, Novell NetWare 3.x customers will be able to leverage the power of Novell Directory
Services (NDS) and IntranetWare to build more scalable and secure networks, connect to
the Internet and build intranets that increase end-user efficiency.
RMT is a server-based application that enables organizations of all sizes to upgrade their networks to
IntranetWare. RMT automates nearly 80 percent of the upgrade process, which means less hands-on work
for network administrators while still allowing for customization of the migration process. This can save
millions of dollars for large organizations migrating hundreds or thousands of NetWare servers to create an
NDS-based enterprise-wide network.
The strength and flexibility of REXXWARE, Simware's premier scripting language for NetWare servers,
is inherent in RMT. REXXWARE automates repetitive and routine maintenance and administration
functions, substantially reducing the manual labor and high cost associated with maintaining enterprise
client/server networks.
"Providing our customers with the tools they need to make the most of their networks is part of serving our
customer, and this partnership enables us to provide our customers with upgrade solutions that meet their
needs for easier, more cost-effective upgrade options," said Coleman Barney, vice president of marketing
for Novell's Platform Services Group. "RMT allows our customers to leverage benefits such as improved
scaleability, security and access to resources that are associated with IntranetWare."
For both Novell and Simware, this agreement provides a significant opportunity to have a positive impact
on a large number of NetWare customers. "This partnership represents a major investment and
endorsement by Novell in Simware's technology and expertise," said Marshall Sangster, vice president of
business development at Simware. "It also marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between our two
companies."
Customers Save Time and Money
"We chose RMT for our customers because of the product's risk mitigation, Simware's proven
methodology and our familiarity with REXXWARE," said Mark Fox, manager of the professional services
department of Dataflex, a leading computer systems integrator based in Florida. "Our customers have
experienced a significant reduction in the time it takes them to migrate their networks, confirming that we
made the right decision to go with RMT."
Other customers have found that RMT's cost-free availability helped make them a strong case for
upgrading their companies' networks. "This partnership gives customers an extremely robust solution,
allowing us to take advantage of all the benefits of NDS," said Ben Lamboy, vice president, NOS
engineering at Chase Manhattan Bank. "RMT will reduce the time required to migrate our NetWare 3
environment to IntranetWare by automating routine tasks. Being able to download and use RMT for free
eliminates the requirement to cost-justify licensing of the product."

RMT is now available for free download through Simware's Web site at http://www.simware.com, or customers can call Simware
